Could you tell me about your coffee machine?

My husband has asked for a new coffee machine for a combination Christmas birthday gift.
My budget is around the £700 area.
Could increase slightly for a great one.
Wanting bean to cup I think.
Could you tell me about yours? Pros cons? Etc.
Thank you.

Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup. Has a milk frother jug. It’s about 12 years old and still going strong. Replaced a 15 year old Gaggia.

We’ve got a DeLonghi Magnifica Evo. It’s great. We paid about £340 for it nearly 2 years ago. It has a milk frother and makes espresso or americano-style coffee. It’s bean-to-cup and pretty easy to maintain and clean.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/11/2024 14:23

We have just bought a de Longhi Magnifica Plus. It’s a new machine, which is an upgrade of the previous model, with a greater variety of options and a user friendly menu system. Can’t recall the exact price but less than £700.

Jamie oliver did a massive test of loads of them and concluded that the best cappucino is made by mixing hot milk and coffee in a milk bottle and shaking it vigorously.

FixingStuff · 16/11/2024 14:25

But you could still buy a really cool coffee machine obv

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/11/2024 14:25

For that budget, I'd get a Sage bean-to-cup. Excellent quality and reputation, and easy to use and even customise (if his coffee 'requirements' become more specialised/advanced).

Massivescreen · 16/11/2024 14:26

I have a Sage Barista Express. No complaints.

Edited

Jamie Oliver knows fuck all about good coffee. 😂

James Hoffman is the man to listen to when it comes to coffee.

We have one of these, just replaced it with the same after around 7 or 8 years.
Much less than your budget but really good

ChanelBoucle · 16/11/2024 14:29

Btw we bought it in the Amazon BF sale three years ago and it was just over £400.

Mide7 · 16/11/2024 14:31

Recently got a delonghi rivelia which I really like. Top end of your budget but I think I got it for around 650. I wanted something that was fully automatic.

Sage/ breville machines are great to but a bit more manual

Assuming you're in the UK, don't buy Breville whatever you do!!

Sage in the UK is known as Breville in the rest of the world but the UK Breville is a very different (sub standard!) company for coffee machines. Somewhat naughty so don't get caught out by this.

Got a Krups bean to cup in a really good Black Friday deal having previously had a Delonghi espresso machine (which died) and a Krups burr grinder. Makes really great coffee but looks a bit utilitarian.

tobee · 16/11/2024 15:03

We got a De'Longhi Eletta last year at Christmas. It's excellent, froths the milk for you to your taste, and use it multiple times a day. From Amazon half price £429.00.

DilemmaDelilah · 16/11/2024 18:18

😂 you don't want to know about mine then! Tassimo Suny. Cost about £35. Does us fine!

Beautifulscribbles · 16/11/2024 18:20

Delonghi Rivelia for sure - it has two hoppers so you can switch them over to have two beans on the go or regular / decaf. Loads of personalised drinks features too

GinGella · 16/11/2024 18:21

Sage Batista Pro, brought on Black Friday a few years ago.. I thought it was completely unnecessary and now wouldn't want to be without it!

roses2 · 16/11/2024 18:42

We upgraded a few months ago from a Delonghi Magnifica to a Sage Barista Express Impress (this model compresses the grounds for you). The Sage definitely produces slightly better coffee. It's currently £380 from the Sage outlet on ebay:

I know you said bean to cup, but a grinder + espresso machine gives you more options. You can then grind beans for filter or cafetiere if you don't fancy an espresso, plus control the grind settings better for individual batches of beans. We have the Delinghi Dedica (because it's slim line for a small kitchen and it comes in red!), a Baratza Virtuoso grinder and the Sage milk cafe for cappuccino.
