How to fix (and then prevent) major limescale in kettle!

Recently moved to a harder water area and our kettle looks like a stalagmite. I've tried descaler bags and they lessen it but don't fix it and it's back to bad again within days. I can hear the limescale in the bottom of the kettle. It's gross! Any tips on how to combat this? Thanks!

White/clear vinegar- empty kettle - add vinegar. Let sit for 30 minutes. Empty kettle and rinse. It should be good.
I have found it’s possible to reuse the vinegar multiple times so I decant it back into the bottle
Or you can buy a descaler product. But more chemicals in that.

Fill it with white vinegar and leave overnight. Repeat as necessary.

But you will find (if you've been brought up in a hard water area) that the tea will taste horrible without limescale in it so you have to wait a week for it to start tasting normal again.

Use a filter on your tap or a filter jug? Otherwise you just have to keep descaling - use citric acid (it's what's in those bags but much cheaper).

Brita filter jug, the only way to have not only decent tea but also a fairly clean kettle. The water also affects the taste of the tea, so it's not just about the kettle itself.

I still have to descale the kettle but the bags will do the trick then.

Thanks I'll get some white vinegar - didn't know you could get filters on the taps

Use citric acid, it doesn't stink like vinegar does

I would just buy a new kettle and a Brita jug and start again TBH

Will do - have gone down an on tap filter hole! Any reccs?

I invested in an overpriced Kithenaid one which I love otherwise this would be my preference

I have a glass kettle with a concealed element. Every other day, when I'm going out I put a squirt of lemon juice in the bottom of the kettle.

If you fancy spending a thousand, get a Harvey water softener.

Killrock descaler is really potent and you can pick up a bottle for a pound or so, which will cover several uses.

You will also need to regularly descale the shower head.
