Recommendations for exercise to do at home for someone who hates exercising

I really dislike exercising. I usually go to a personal trainer twice a week and walk in the evening four times a week for about an hour. At the moment my pt is ill and he's probably going to be off work for a month or so. I'm still walking and have increased to daily because I'm not going to the gym, but I don't like it when it's cold and wet and it's getting colder and wetter. Perversely, I also don't like walking in the sun because I'm part-vampire on my mother's side, so summer is also a pain because the best time for me to walk is about half an hour or so after dinner, but in the summer it's still very bright then.

I have type 2 diabetes which has got a lot worse recently and I'm having trouble controlling it even with slow-release insulin and a very low carb diet. Exercise definitely helps, especially in the short term. I wear a continuous glucose monitor so I can see when it's spiking (spikes are caused mostly by stress at the moment) and I do a load of sit-stands, going up and down the stairs or walking lunges to try and get it down again, all of which are very tedious. Weirdly some non-exercise stuff also helps quite quickly, like sewing or crocheting, probably because it lowers the stress.

The only exercises that I have ever really enjoyed are hitting a tractor tyre with a baseball bat and using a rowing machine, both of which would take up a massive amount of space in my house. Although I do have a double height hall so could theoretically wield a baseball bat there and I could store a rowing machine under the dining table if it had wheels.

I particularly dislike dance type video things or anything that requires changing into special clothes or shoes or going to a different location, and really need something that I can just do for 5-20 mins at a time that will burn off a bit of blood glucose. I also don't like people much and won't go to classes.

So, suggestions welcome. TIA

Maybe a water rower? They have wheels and can be stood on one end to store. Expensive though; not sure if you have a budget in mind.

Hmm - there's not much you like or are willing to do. What about weights? Lots of different exercises you can do, doesn't need to take up a lot of time, can be varied in terms of time per exercise/no. of reps. Some good videos on YouTube you can follow along.

Rebounder/trampoline?

I am tempted by a water rower, and my DH would probably buy one for Christmas if I asked. I really like the movement of a rowing machine and the way it uses the whole body including the back but doesn't impact anywhere, and no bouncing boobs so no need to put on a sports bra. I know from experience that just 10 mins or so of proper rowing is a really good workout for me. I quite like the look of this one. https://www.waterrower.ie/waterrower-pure-vr3-oak Although if my DH is feeling generous (and he will be getting a bonus at Christmas Grin) this one in either walnut or club would be lovely. https://www.waterrower.ie/waterrower-club-with-s4-monitor

I was looking at a walking pad, but all the ones that have videos show the user with a very short stride and I have a longish stride so think I would find it annoying and not really energetic enough.

I have weights (well, DD and DS have them) and use them with my PT, but don't find that they burn energy all that fast from a glucose control point of view. I should definitely make an effort to use them anyway as I have shoulder problems and need to do weight training to keep them mobile.

Trampoline or rebounder would probably require a sports bra, so not the sort of thing to just do on the spur of the moment.

I do Growingannas on YouTube. I love her stuff, no talking to try and concentrate on.

I think having to look stuff up on my phone to follow along (or go and find my iPad, then charge it, then watch it) will probably not happen. Especially if I have to scroll through loads to find one that doesn't need a sports bra, doesn't hurt my knees, isn't on the floor, is quick. I would probably keep doing what I'm doing now (sit-stands, squats, walking lunges) instead, I tend to just do something that's fairly instant to get my blood sugar back down when it's spiking.

I'm coming back to the thread to let you all know that I got one of these for Christmas. https://www.waterrower.ie/waterrower-club-with-s4-monitor

So I've only been using it for a few days but it's working out great. I've been doing 300m then a break then another 300m twice a day, morning/early afternoon and evening. It takes me 90 seconds to do 300m the first time, and nearly 2 minutes the second time. Basically I do it whenever I have a spike, so usually about 40-60 minutes after a meal. I'm out of breath after 300m but nothing hurts and no need to put on a sports bra, in fact most of the sessions have been in my pjs and slippers. I'm going to gradually increase the distance until I'm doing 1km without stopping.

It seems to be better than walking for glucose control too. I had been walking for an hour in the evening, and it did bring my glucose down really well but when I finished my walk I would always get a bounce back up, not back to what it was but still not staying at the low point. The rowing seems to have minimal bounce back after I stop and my waking up glucose is much improved. I will keep walking as well though as I quite like it when the weather isn't horrendous.

It did cost an absolute fortune but I prefer it to the air resistance rowers, plus my personal trainer is still off sick so I've been saving €400 per month since the end of October. Also, it's huge. Even though there are photos of a person sitting on it it's still bigger than I expected.
