Hi. My DD is going on a German exchange in a few weeks and I'd like to make up a Christmas gift box for the family to say thanks for having her. What English foods or bits could I add in to make it really lovely for them?? Danke!!

Lemon curd
Shortbread in a nice tin
Mince pies
Christmas pudding (mini ones?)
If you have space, crackers (as in pulling not cheese)
Quality street

Great ideas thanks. I was thinking an and s light up tin of shortbreads. I don't think they can take crackers in the plane unfortunately but did think a viable might be nice??

Teabags in a posh box?

If you can, ask DD to bring back some Hanuta - can't get them in the UK, and the fake Lidl ones are not the same. (Assuming you like hazelnuts/Nutella, that is)

Yes, I'll get some teabags. I've seen some nice ones in a postbox tin that looked cute

You could make something like a tea bread or a parkin?

turkeyboots · 13/11/2024 19:05

Christmas cake or pudding? It's not something you'd get in Germany at all.

A lot of British food is available in Germany as well, you can get Tunnocks at Edeka these days, but it's still nice to get some things nicely presented, like an interesting fudge and some nice shortbread, some good tea. Also, but this might be too big and awkward to take along, the UK has far better crisp flavours than Germany has.

My German cousins LOVE Malteasers,

whenever we go at Christmas we take the pretty light up and clockwork biscuit boxes from M&S and they are very popular .

My German in laws like crumpets.
