What do you use to clean your dental mouth guard?

Yuck. Apparently I grind my teeth and that's why I have a sore jaw all the time. I now have a dentist supplied mouth guard.

He told me to clean it with toothpaste and a toothbrush or it would go yellow. He was not kidding!!

I do this but didn't think it seemed very clean. So I then added dissolving tablets I found online to soak it in. It's still got a revolting tinge of yellow.

Are there really good tablets out there you can recommend? Any other ways to clean it?

Have you tried Retainer Brite?

Get a dental pod and use that with tablets. It'll get them clean and fresh.

I give mine a quick scrub with toothpaste then it sits in denture soaking solution all day. It's not quite as sparkling as when i got it a year ago but it's not bad at all

Ds has removable plastic and metal brace. We were told to clean in a bowl with water and drop of washing up liquid using a tootbrush and to soak every few days with Retainer Brite.

The best thing is an ultrasonic cleaner. Don't bother with a dedicated one for dental appliances, get an ordinary rectangular one and you can also use it to clean eye glasses and jewellery.

I use Steradent but don't soak it every day.

No matter what you do, it goes yellow in time imo.

My dd has has used them for years and the dentist told her not to use toothpaste as its abrasive and causes more staining.

But we replace ours about every one/two years.

Thank you all.

I'll switch to retainer brite and see if that makes a difference. Does the ultrasonic cleaner prevent yellowing?

I scrub it with a toothbrush and hand soap and then use retainer brite. I was told never to use toothpaste as it's too abrasive for the plastic.

I think yellowing can depend on what you eat. If you drink a lot of coffee or eat food containing turmeric then it's more likely to stain. I wear clear plastic retainers at night and the ultrasonic cleaner keeps them crystal clear.
