Tell me about your washing machine

Mines knackered and I need a new one asap. Ideally from a place that will come and fit it and dispose of the old one.

We replaced our washing machine recently and found that in terms of suppliers ao.com were the best- they will deliver next day.

For a fee of £60sh they will fit the new machine and take away the old one - we didnt use this service but I was able to arrange this for my elderly father last year and he said they did a good job in terms of clearing up and ensuring that he was set up to use it.

John Lewis also offer a similar service

As for what machine to buy they are much of a muchness really - they start at around £250 and go up to £1000+. Although Mielle and the like make good machines I'm sceptical about whether there is any benefit to having a more expenisve machine as the basic function is the same. Is a Mielle at £1000 four times better than an Indesit at £250?

Decide on what size you want and the range of features - although I suspect that most people only use one or two of the programmes. Also check the energy rating as this will affect the running cost. When we were looking we went for a more basic machine - I felt that fancy controls and the ability to control it from my phone werent worth it, wouldnt be used and were one more thing to go wrong.

Ours wasn’t working but all we had to do was change the brushes.
ordered them online and did it ourselves

Just a thought if it can be fixed

I needed an integrated one and was advised it was definitely worth spending money on a top end one. Apparently cheaper models experience much more movement which leads to the door becoming misaligned. I bought a NEFF one and it is great - quiet, enough programmes to have options and easy to use. I use the timer function regularly.
The kitchen fitters would not have fitted a cheap one without me signing a disclaimer (due to movement reasons above).

I agree with the ao.com recommendation - used them for a dishwasher recently. First class service 👌

I think they are all much of a much these days. Exact to replace in 8 years or so.

It really depends what you want. My criteria was:
-Integrated
-Washer/dryer
-No louder than our old machine (it's in a kitchen diner)
-Good for nappy wash - a c/1hr 40 deg cycle & a long 2.5hr 60deg cycle
-drain filter has hose/able to get a baking tray under (our old one was a nightmare!)

The only option less than £600 was a Hisense one so we went with that. Had it about 6 weeks and so far so good. It's much much quieter and clothes come out clean and actually dry. The wash & dry cycles do take a really long time though but given I'm out at work or aslepp most of the time it's on I can live with that.

Most companies will deliver, install and take away the old one now.
