Sorry, mine is pretty shallow but I've had a long rubbish day at work, exhausted and am certain I'm coming down with something.
DH walked in after work with a piping hot takeaway, unannounced.*
Put a massive smile back on my face 😀

*as in I wasn't expecting a takeaway.
Thought we'd be having bits out of the fridge.

What's restored your faith recently?

It was an Indian takeaway.
I've had a biryani with vegetable curry, tarka dahl, a mixed tandoori starter and a peshwari naan .
Now resemble a beached whale😂

Aww that's lovely op.

For me it was recently when I saw a guy stumble in the car he was elderly. I tried calling at home but he didn't answer so in eeped my horn (coild not get out of car easy) and indicated to pedestrians a bit further down the road. They ran to him and I saw one woman wrapping her arm round him to support him. The guy gave me a thumbs up as in 'we got him"..

When there were those riots after the Southport stabbings, and the media was warning us about massive riots at the weekend, and then the racists were massively outnumbered by the anti-racists and they all went home with their tails between their legs and some of them had to have police protection to get home safely.

Anicecumberlandsausage · 12/11/2024 20:07

I work for the Tube so it's got to be Every Time Londoners Helped Others in a Crisis, especially after that run of terror attacks years back. We usually don't say anything to anyone, but when something happens people step up and are brilliant. 🥰🫶🏻

BiggyJ · 12/11/2024 20:10

Aah shite, I'll need to get MN to edit my title as my own post is a bit misleading <hangs head in shame> 😳
Not really restoring faith in humanity is it, just feeding my greedy guts.
Think I got a bit carried away when DH appeared with the takeaway bag, looking like some kind of angel of mercy 😂

Your lovely stories have made me look at myself long and hard 😆🙈

HeddaGarbled · 12/11/2024 20:17

Not at all: everyday acts of kindness can be big or small but they all add up.

BiggyJ · 12/11/2024 20:23

Thanks @HeddaGarbled
The takeaway people actually did put in an extra naan, said to DH it's just as easy to make two as it is one so popped the extra one in for us too as they know it's my favourite, we've been ordering from them for 20+ years - that's so nice right? 😊

I've had a frantically busy teaching day followed by an evening meeting and am feeling overwhelmed with workload atm. I got home and checked my emails just now and two y8 girls had sent me a lovely, polite email asking if they could please come and spend tomorrow lunch time helping me sort out/tidy up the resources I use for the lunch time club they come to which I run (I'd mentioned they were in a bit of a mess). I teach such a lot of lovely kids!

ProvincialLady24 · 12/11/2024 20:26

The nice lady in the cafe today who gave us her table when she me struggling with my DGM in her wheelchair. Some people are wonderful and they make up for the many many selfish twats in this world.

SimpleThings101 · 12/11/2024 20:27

I don’t have or put any faith in any of humanity 🤣 we are all the same, messed up, fragile, bolshy, selfish yet occasionally helpful but on the whole pretty useless lot 🤷🏼‍♀️

Enko · 12/11/2024 20:31

I think small moments are restorative of faith in humanity op. The little things add up. He loves you clearly. Made me smile to read your post.

mondaytosunday · 12/11/2024 20:31

My son is brilliant at 'random acts of kindness'. He's 21 lives on his own some distance away. He was telling me about the people in the street where he works or lives. Like: there's Sally who's elderly I see her coming with her trolly so help her take her groceries inside. And:
My co worker's sister is mentally disabled but I always have a little chat with her when she comes to visit. She likes talking to me. Or:
Jan struggles with her garden and bins so I take them out for her and do any yard work needs doing.
He's the first to jump up on the tube if anyone needs a seat, help with luggage or needs a pushchair carried up the stairs . He just is a kind guy. And they repay him! One lady bakes a loaf of bread for him each week. Another gives him jam. It makes the place a community.

TheRealSlimShandy · 12/11/2024 20:34

Aww these stories are lovely and frankly two naans would definitely restore my faith in humanity 😊

cheerfulaf · 12/11/2024 20:36

My DD was on FaceTime to her boyfriend last night whilst I was in the room (both 15). Her bf is a twin and his sister was on speaker phone to a lad who didn’t sound particularly pleasant. My DD’s bf said “sorry give me a sec, hey Alfie don’t talk my sister like that mate” hearing a young lad being protective of his sister was lovely and knowing that my DD is dating a boy with those type of morals is reassuring

DumpedByText · 12/11/2024 20:36

A couple of weeks ago my 17 year old daughter got stranded on a train in Manchester, we live in Wales. Passengers sat on the train not moving for 4 hours no where near a station, then it got cancelled.

She got chatting to a young man who was a teacher, he was also going to Wales. They shared an Uber home from Manchester, split the cost and he waited with her at the station until I collected her as it was 11pm and very busy. He had further to go after this and insisted on waiting with her.

What an absolute gent, and if he was to see this, thank you so so much I really appreciated your help 🥰

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 12/11/2024 20:38

Glad that you enjoyed your takeaway, OP. I'm sure it was well deserved.

For me, it is my bloody wonderful dd. She is the kindest, sweetest, funniest, wisest and most caring person that I have ever met (I might be a bit biasedGrin), and even the shittiest day melts away for me when she is around. She's away at uni right now, but just talking to her brightens up my day without fail. She's coming home for a visit soon and I'm beyond excited!!!

Watching the, mainly teenagers, going out in the suburbs of Valencia to clear some of that mud away. Made my heart sing. There is good in this world sometimes you just have to look and search it out.

the same happened after the disgraceful riots in Southport. Good people going into the street trying to put things right.

it seems to me that there are people who want to build others, and communities up, and those who want to drag them down. I don't understand why people want to drag others down. It's easier I grant you, just to hate and not build. But it's not a strategy that can work long term.

cryinglaughing · 12/11/2024 21:50

Mine wasn't recent but I was shunted by a HGV on the motorway in morning rush hour traffic.
Myself and my 2 dd's were helped by traffic police over the barrier to safety.
A paramedic who was on her way home after her night shift, pulled over and offered to take my girls to their respective schools.
Not only did she drop them off, she also went into the primary school and explained what had happened in case my youngest got upset later in the day.
The police only had to get me safely off the motorway but we're kind enough to take me to work.

A shit day made better by people going out of their way, restored my faith.
