Is it possible to recover from anxiety that I've had since primary school. I'm 53 now.

Anxiety has plagued my life. It's ruined so much. I'm going through hell at the moment. I feel like this is my last chance. I've just completed an online Dr request. I've told them SSRIs have never worked for me and I need therapy. They're just going to palm me off with some more meds or stick me on a 6 months waiting list for a 6 session phone call aren't they?!

I'd willingly join a clinical trial or something. I'm desperate. I've started talking to myself. I can't eat or sleep.

Anyone actually managed to control their anxiety,?

Hi there. Hope you are ok as you can be today,? I've got a Dr appointment tomorrow. I've hit crisis point. I've made a list of things I need to do.some days I can barely make dinner and this makes me feel very guilty.

unfortunately mental health services tend to try to put people through a very light intervention and then discharge them because they are so short of resources. You have to be insistent that you are not better after your e.g 6 phone sessions and also that you are made worse by SSRIs. You will eventually get more help hopefully but it is very hard when you are anxious and low on self worth to keep being assertive.
The noise problems you describe may be misophonia which often is something that coexists with autism. Another unfortunate is that, although the NHS is walking up to how much undiagnosed autism there is, especially in women, it is being used as an exclusion criteria to get mental health treatment in some areas as they are not trained in it. Some areas are good though, post code lottery sadly.
There is little research on menopause and autism but the research there is seems to point to sensory difficulties being heightened at this time with the good news that they tend to settle and improve some years post menopause.

Even if you are not autistic, the tools, strategies and support from autism focussed sites may be more relevant and helpful for you than standard anxiety readings.
