Sodastream for fizzy water?

I am partial to fizzy water. I prefer wine (fizzy or otherwise) but sadly I can't drink that every night and a fizzy water softens the blow to some extent. The plastic bottles make me feel bad though and I've wondered if a sodastream might be a good option. Does anyone have one?? They were a bit of a thing in the 90's I recall.

I do about a litre of water a day. I paid for 12 months of cylinders up front for £120. One cylinder lasts about a month.
So about £10 a month for about 30 litres. However for me it’s not using the disposable bottles that is more important.

This is useful, thanks. So 30 litres for £10 is actually a bit cheaper than 80p per 2-litre bottle. Sounds like a no-brainer. Thanks!

Use mine every day. The plastic was making me feel guilty.

Used every day. It's brilliant.

We have a sodastream purely for fizzy water. It's better than buying it in bottles. You return the canisters, but Sainsbury's/ argos are only companies I know that do it.

RecycleMePlease · 12/11/2024 18:18

We had a soda stream (got it on offer in Lidl at some point). We used it so much, that when I had a small windfall I got a boiling water tap with the fizzy module, and I love it.

Sodastream is fine. Not having the hissing and mucking about with the bottles (one slightly shrunk from going through the dishwasher) is lovely.

We get our canisters through the post - buy them 4 at a time, then swap out the used 4 for a new 4 - very easy.

Yes, we have one. It’s great and is used daily. I rolled my eyes a bit at Dh when he said he was buying one, but it’s very worth it.

You can get the canisters loads of random places. We get ours at the teeny hardware store in town that seems to sell everything. No need to go further to a big shop.

Sparkling water tastes like static TV. I prefer fruity ones

ringmybe11 · 12/11/2024 18:23

I got one for Xmas last year - much better than the multiple plastic bottles I was getting through a week

We have an Aarke one bought with air miles points, use it most days for a fizzy water with lime and mint, elderflower, or pear and apple cordial from Robinsons or Bottle Green.
It takes the standard soda stream canisters, we swap them over at a local Rymans, randomly!

I love ours but I've found that, despite being dishwasher safe, they accumulate gritty residue in the coloured part of the bottle. It doesn't impact on the flavour (as it's separated from the actual contents) but it's quite off putting

I love mine and you can use it to make nice tonic water with the syrup. It does NOT however, turn wine into Prosecco, it spurted all over the kitchen when I tried that!

I don’t wash my bottles. I use them to fizz up water and then decant into a glass.

CoastalCalm · 12/11/2024 19:43

Aarke here and used every day , large bottles never maintain fizz til the end I find.

We’re moving into a new house soon and will be totally renovating. I’m definitely going to push for a boiling water / fizzy water tap although I know I’ll have a fight on my hands because DP hates ‘gadgets’. I think it sounds amazing though

I got one in 2011 and it's still going strong, I swap the gas bottles over at Argos.

You can turn white wine into "prosecco" you just have to be very slow with the button and let all the fizz dissipate before going in for another squirt.
(We accidentally drank all the prosecco for new year before midnight one year, so needed to get creative at 11.45!)

We have such a tap at work and the fizz is less then what I get with my carbonation.
it may be the settings but I would check how much you can adjust it.

Hmmmm - this will definitely need to be considered, I like a good level of fizz

I have had one for at least 6 yrs and it's still going strong. We bought it to reduce plastic waste as I drink about 1.5 ltrs per day. I buy the bottles from sodastream on a 12 month plan. It does work out slightly dearer than buying in bottles but so much less waste
