Which day would you rather have off over Xmas?

I am working Christmas Eve and I also have to work another day on the week of Christmas. I get to choose whether I want Monday 23rd or Friday 27th off. I am off the week after until Thursday 1st Jan.

If I have 23rd off it will mean I can do any last minute Christmas bits done that I would’ve done Xmas eve and means I’m not working 2 days in a row on that week, plus the 27th will be working from home so not like I have to go in. However if I have the 27th off then it means I have a longer block of days off in a row. I will finish on 24th and not be back in until 1st jan.

What would you choose?

23rd, Christmas build up is the best bit

I agree with this

I'd probably choose the 23rd simply because it would mean I could go out and do the fresh food shop early in the morning and it would be done until after Christmas.

Plus in most workplaces Christmas Eve is a more relaxed, festive and shorter day so an easy day to work.

Justme2023123 · 12/11/2024 12:27

23rd here too

I do agree it’s the best bit. I was leaning more towards the 23rd off tbh but then not sure if I’ll regret it when the 27th comes and I’ve got to log on while the rest of my family are off

I'd rather have 23rd off. I like the build up to Christmas and getting everything ready/last minute bits. I'm working one day between Christmas and new year which will be the 29th. Also from home..I'm not bothered at all I would've enjoyed Christmas by then so 1 day will be fine for me

Bjorkdidit · 12/11/2024 12:29

In that case, you need to decide which you prefer - a day off with your family on the 27th or a day off, possibly to do as you please at least some of the time, on the 23rd.

Spacecrispsnack · 12/11/2024 12:31

23rd, would make working Christmas Eve less bad!

loropianalover · 12/11/2024 12:33

In your case I’d take the 27th off.

Yes the build up is better but you’ll have just had the weekend off (21st/22nd) to do Xmassy bits and are working Xmas eve anyway… at least once you finish on Xmas eve you’ll be able to shut off from work completely and not go back until January!

CrushingOnRubies · 12/11/2024 12:48

Work 23rd

Get it over and undone with. Working on 27th will ruin Boxing Day ... in a I have to work tomorrow everyone is having another baileys and I can't way.

potatocakesinprogress · 12/11/2024 12:49

Would the 23rd be working from home as well or not? If it is I'd go with the 27th off. You can always do bits at home around work, like wrapping presents and such.

Yes and the 24th is also from home. We don’t have to come in over those two weeks

I would choose the 23rd, I like the days running up to Christmas and tend to get a lot done and like the atmosphere at home, the 27th is a bit of a non day for me.

But then as I'm about to tell my employer what to do with their job, had enough, thankfully after what seems like a million years of working I have decided to retire....😁

tediber · 12/11/2024 14:14

I would take off the 23rd as you'll have had a decent break and then back for a day only. I prefer the build up to Christmas too. Exciting and gd for getting organised.

Iliketulips · 12/11/2024 15:06

I'd chose 27th off, as long as you know you've got time to get food/last minute things, or have a partner who can do that for you.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 12/11/2024 15:14

I think I’d take half a day on the afternoon of the 23rd and then log in for half a day at some point on the 27th to break up the post christmas period if I was working!

SoiledMyselfDuringSomeTurbulence · 12/11/2024 15:24

I'd have the 27th and get a longer break.

JC03745 · 12/11/2024 15:30

Some years, I've gone around the supermarkets before they shut on 23rd, just to see what bargains they are giving away.

1 year I got a turkey for £5! Bags of brussel spouts for 5p. That year, Tescos had clearly over ordered and had a massive pallet of them left. Sometimes cheeses, pates and desserts too are cheap, all which will go out of date over the Christmas period.
