Loaf sofa driving me to absolute distraction

We have a sofa from Loaf. Two years old nearly. It's absolute awful. The cushions sag and bunch up if you so much as dare to sit on it for ten minutes. We then have to spend ten minutes Manhandling them and pummeling them to get them back into shape, only for it to happen again almost immediately.
We did email customer services about a week after we got it, to ask if the cushions needed to be filled a bit more-they were very unhelpful and said we just needed to pummel it. At this point I'm ready to saw it in half I hate it so much, but we can't afford to replace it.
Is there anything we can do the with bloody thing? Would foam inserts of some sort work? Where would we even get them?
And a word to anyone suckered by Loafs lovely marketing and fabric colours: do not be seduced!!

You can get foam on Ebay of various thickness/density that you can cut to size, if you're confident with opening up/sewing the foam back into the places where it's saggy (if no zip). We ditched the old cushions on our Ikea sofa with the same issue and got entirely new thick sheets of foam and cut them to the right size.

We're having the same issue with our Loaf sofa. We've had it about 2 years and I have grown to dislike it immensely. We paid a lot for it and it's very uncomfortable.
I finally contacted Loaf about the constant plumping up of the seat cushions which are quite big, cumbersome and weighty. Loaf on the surface had been extremely helpful, extremely polite and sent someone out to look at it.
He said it was a common issue. Loaf came back and said the sofa was fine, it wasn't a manufacturing fault therefore, the only solution they could offer was for me to get in touch and they would talk me through how to plump up the cushions!! I was quite astounded.
Basically they are not offering a solution - there isn't one! It's a design that looks good, but needs re-thinking.
I'm thinking of replacing the cushions, but feel miffed about spending more money on the sofa. Has anyone replaced the cushions with successful results? If so, did you do it yourself or through a company/ upholsterer?

I'm joining the rant because I'm so disappointed with the same thing.
We purchased a REALLY expensive sofa which sags terribly. After only 1 sitting all 6 covers need to be puffed up... including the a long chaise cushion which is a nightmare to deal with as a single person and you have to drag the heavy thing on to the floor and stomp on it. We work 24/7 so admitedly we were late to complain but when we got around to it they hid behind a "no manufacturing fault" wall and would not consider design issue faults. Admitedly it's all a design thing but nothing of this was mentioned at point of sale so bear in mind and be VERY careful - there is no mercy after the stautory cut off, even if you pay Loaf prices.

Feather cushions just do this! I used to work in a fabric and upholstery shop and people often came in with this issue. If you like the sofa in general, there's 2 options that will give you that squishy cushion look without the constant plumping.

  1. Replace the feather inner with foam and make a slimmer feather pad to sit on top of the foam, inside the cushion cover.
  2. Replace the inner with foam but wrap the foam with poly wadding, glued in place.

You can cut the foam yourself but it's fiddly to get a good finish without a foam saw.

You can get the foam cut to size and then wrap it yourself - you'll need a spray upholstery glue like Gloverbond, and then the entire theme should be sewn into a stockinette sleeve.

Other methods may exists, these are the options I know of. Brave yourself! Foam is likely to be loads more expensive than you expect, but you should end up with a nice looking and comfortable result.

Same with us, it made me so cross to have this saggy, lumpy, sad looking sofa that needed more tending to than a needy toddler. We replaced it.

We bought really uncomfortable sofas and after less than a year we decided to cut our losses.

Ended up ordering recliner sofas from G-Plan and selling the uncomfortable ones just before the new sofas were delivered. Four years later we are still happy with the replacements

My sofa is from Multiyork which collapsed a few years ago....I dread replacing it and will probably cling on forever!

Thanks for this. We have a 20 year old L shape sofa from John Lewis, which is still amazing. I
‘boof’ those cushions every night and they still look the same. But I have always fancied a larger sofa and have been eyeing up one in Loaf. Not sure I will bother now.

heleninthealps · 23/07/2025 08:49

Thanks for the link, @marmite2025, I'll definitely try these. Just disapointing that Loaf couldn't warn us we might be wanting it down the line :) Sounds like it might work though!

Loaf are absolutely appalling, products and customer service if anything goes wrong.

They also lie and say things are “solid timber” when in fact they are chipboard inside.

I’m still fuming over my interactions with them and wish I had never given them any of my money.

I still love my Loaf sofa. Had it 3 years. Yes it sags but me and the smelly cats love it.
My husband refuses to sit on it. He is happy at the other end of the room on his sofa from Next all alone.
I think I knew it would sag. Probably not as much as it does but too late now for the price we paid. And it's just for me and the cats so I don't care. It's still comfortable and looks good enough if I plump it up if anyone pops around.

I have to give some credit to Next sofas - we have a 10-yr old one that I went off not long after we bought it, but in terms of durability and looks it's been blinking brilliant. The upright cushions that you lean back on need a bit of plumping/redistributing but generally it's worn so well.

Does anyone have a very vague price to get a large (non-fixed cushions) sofa reupholstered? I'm vaguely guessing it's going to be at least £600-800 inc materials?
