Parking in Manchester city centre

Any recommendations for parking for a few hours on a Saturday in Manchester city centre? Have parked in Arndale before but not on the weekend and it was so busy already.

We'll have our large dog with us so any options of parking somewhere out and taking a bus/uber won't work so well.

Thank you!

The Charles Street car park by the university tends to be less busy and cheaper than other car parks. Alternatively you could park in Stockport and get the train in - all the trains from the south go through Stockport. I can usually find on street parking for free a short distance from the station in Edgeley.

I always use the Q Park at Piccadilly Place. It's NOT cheap but you can prebook online and the barrier just opens up as you drive up.

Thanks both! I'll have a look at those recommendations :)

It's the first weekend of the utter hell on earth that is the Christmas markets so everywhere will be busier than usual.

Probably easier if you're able to arrive fairly early and be prepared to sit in traffic for a fair while when you leave.

I worked near Victoria train station and there are a few car parks around near the coop building and the bus station if your over that side of Manchester.

Havalona · 08/11/2024 12:15

What are you planning to do for the day?

lemonyfox · 08/11/2024 12:22

Which direction into town are you coming from? If you really want to avoid traffic and hefty parking charges, there's the Worsley park and ride which is about a 10 min bus ride outside the centre. The V buses run past usually every 10 mins or so. When I used to work in town that's how I'd do it because city traffic is absolutely awful, especially when the markets are on!

LaCerbiatta · 08/11/2024 15:20

We're staying near Whitworth park and will be having lunch near Arndale and then just walking around the city centre.

Just checked and that Park and Ride is in the opposite direction. Also are dogs allowed in P&R?

thanks!

We normally park in the q-park on first street but it's about a 20 minute walk to the Arndale centre is about 20 mins walk.

CocoDC · 08/11/2024 15:38

I’d keep the car a where you’re staying and taxi it in. It’s only 15-20mins.

Yes I've seen dogs on there before, but probably won't be of any help if it's in the opposite direction.

If I were to pick an NCP in town then I'd probably park at the Shudehill one, as there's usually loads of spaces and it's right by the Arndale.

I'd avoid the Deansgate NCP and the Spinningfields one too as their slaves are horribly tight and so expensive.

TheFTrain · 08/11/2024 20:30

You could park at Didsbury Metro and get the tram in.

I generally park in The Great Northern. I can't remember ever having a problem parking there but you're a good 15 mins walk away from the Arndale and it's not cheap.

Hoppinggreen · 08/11/2024 20:33

I usually park in the MEN arena car park, I come into Manchester that way so can park there and not drive any more into The City but its a close walk.
It's not cheap though and Manchester will be very busy, I am not sure your dog will like it much but it sounds like you don't have another option

SovietSpy · 08/11/2024 20:39

The top end of Oxford Road has a bus gate so be careful if you drive that way. Lots of people get fines. To be honest the walk from whitworth park to St Peter’s square is about 30 mins, are you able to walk? Once there you can use the tram to get about and dogs are allowed on them.
if not, I would also park around Victoria station area. The car parks will be silly money though.

BangFlash · 08/11/2024 20:43

I always use the NPCs right on the outskirts of the city centre, the new bailey one and the one opposite whose name I can't remember.

They're not cheap longer stay but ok for a few hours. You can book spaces too.

ThelmaDinkley · 08/11/2024 20:48

I’d leave the car where you’re staying and get the bus in. Buses are regular and cheap. Be much better than messing around trying to get parking.

ScottBakula · 08/11/2024 21:31

You could try the NCP carpark at cholton St bus station . But it can be busy .

When I lived in Manchester City centre I rented a parking space in the flats I was in. Could have rented it by the day. Think it was rent my parking space or something like that.
