Can one child’s 1-1 help other children In the class too?

Or is this not allowed ?

If one child has an ehcp and a 1-1 and there’s a child in the class with SEN but only with IEP currently no EHCP and they sit those children together is it appropriate for the TA to then be helping both ?

@OneBlackHeart @MabelsBeats if 1:1 is detailed, specified and quantified in F but isn’t being provided and you haven’t got anywhere discussing it with the school and LA, email the Director of Children’s Services threatening Judicial Review. If that doesn’t work, you need a pre-action letter. There is a wait, but SOSSEN can help with this free of charge. If a pre-action letter doesn’t work, you can look at pursuing judicial review proceedings.

If the wording is vague and woolly, it can’t be enforced. Request an early review to try to tighten the wording. IPSEA has a model letter you can use to request an early review.

Depends on the plan. DSD only needs 1-2-1 for specific activities and so has the activities and times listed on the plan when help must be dedicated. At all other times the 1-2-1 can be used by any child.

OP if your child is the one without the ECHP I wouldn't worry about it (and I say that as the parent of a child with an EHCP and a 1:1).

In our case DC's (supposedly full time) 1:1 does a fair bit of general class work as the school conveniently didn't get round to replacing the general class TA when she left.
We aren't making a fuss about it for the moment as DC is actually thriving in the current setup.
BUT school know that we know they are using the 1:1 funding for general support and that the day DC stops thriving we will hold school/LA to account.

1:1 support needs to be specified and quantified in the EHCP. Then there are legal avenues when this does not happen.

Resilience and independence will be argued by the school and this is a laudable aim and should be built into good practice.

But this does not mean abandoning the child you are funded to support with no scaffolding and careful supervision to help another child.

DS2 was meant to have playground support specified in his EHCP but apparently did not mind having dirt put down his trousers so it was ok he didn't have playground support.

He was meant to have classroom support specified in his EHCP but preferred to doodle at the back of the class so that was OK as he was quiet and 1:1 could support others.

He is autistic and ADHD and has genius levels of measured intelligence. He already had an EHCP so I had choices. LA funded. I HE with internet school throughout secondary and he is now at university studying masters level mechanical engineering. I hate to think where he would be now if I had accepted the crap I was fed.

I hope that the DC that benefited from his funded 1:1 have been equally successful. Not all those that need support get it.

It depends what the EHCP says but you'll never know that unless you ask the parent which could be rude.

I was expected to do both, yes. Frustrating for all involved including the 1-1 child.
