Do home workouts work

If you only exercise at home doing home workouts, do they actually work, have you noticed a difference? Also what workouts do you do?

Needing some inspiration. Thanks

I do Les Mills Body Combat at home and yes it works.

LondonPapa · 07/11/2024 15:05

Yes I’d say they work. I do indoor cycling during the winter on Zwift. I’d argue I’m a stronger cyclist from indoor cycling, especially hills which I don’t have many steep options of in my area.

I also do SkiERG, mobility and basic strength at home during downtime which I’d say maintains fitness rather than enhance.

I use my walking pad, I will do body weight exercises such as squats and lunges.

my cardio fitness has improved because I’ve been doing it everyday for the last few months

I lost 2 stone in lockdown doing Joe Wicks. I went a bit far so have put a bit back on but have pretty well maintained a shape I'm happy with.

Fitnessblender.com has loads of great free workouts you can do at home.

Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can!

CookieMonster28 · 07/11/2024 15:53

I got into amazing shape for my wedding using Courtney Black workouts - they are hard and intense though but very effective!

minisomum · 07/11/2024 15:54

Yes (I have a peloton bike and do a mixture of spin, strength and yoga classes).

You have to be quite disciplined though - I’m definitely guilty of not pushing myself as much as I would in an inperson class sometimes.

Funkyslippers · 07/11/2024 15:57

Of course they work, no different to a class in person as long as you have any equipment needed. I started my fitness 20 years ago doing Davina McCall dvds and have done loads of workouts online too. As long as you're getting hot/a bit out of breath then it's definitely working

doodleygirl · 07/11/2024 15:58

Yep, they do, Caroline Girvan
strength training, you do need to invest in weights and need to be self motivated. I am toned and strong.

PinkLadyLove · 07/11/2024 16:08

I do fitbymik on YouTube. 20 to 30 minutes. Really effective workouts but gentle enough to be done daily. Highly recommend.

hadenoughofplayinggames · 07/11/2024 16:09

Consistency is what works, so any type of movement as long as you do it regularly.

JackieGoodman · 07/11/2024 16:10

Definitely, as long as you do them regularly, same as going to a class.

Sortumn · 07/11/2024 16:15

I have a kettlebell and just find a routine on YouTube, often Caroline Girvan. Or I just grab the kettlebell and do something with it for 10-15 minutes when I feel like I've become one with the sofa for too long.

I combine this with plenty of walking because I like being outdoors.

Foxblue · 07/11/2024 16:18

Yes but you HAVE to sort your diet out if you want to lose weight, sorry. But I find it makes losing weight easier. Also, and I know some people will disagree or have different experiences which is totally fine, but I think the bonus of doing it at home is being able to fit it in more often - I saw a big difference between 2 x 1 hour a week and 4 x 1 hour a week. It's just easier to do if you are doing it more often.. if that makes sense?

tizsha · 07/11/2024 16:21

Thanks all for your replies. I'm goi f to look into them all. I have some 3kg dumbbells but thinking of getting a kettle bell. I'm new to this.

I have about 30 mins spare each morning so wanting to do something in that time, maybe 6-7 times a week. Then try and fit a beginners Pilate workout in around 7pm in the evening D’Or 20 mins.

Would I see a change and or notice a difference doing this? Also I'm going to change my diet as well

I think if I was starting with weights and I'd not done them before I'd get some proper tuition to ensure I didn't hurt myself and make sure my form was good.

Fitnessblender is great for a range of exercises.

If I just want to up my physical activity I'll search YouTube for ' (artist) dance workout' and I like refit revolution for their dance workouts, I find them a good starter to get into a good routine and up the cardio a bit before moving on to something more intense like Jillian Michaels etc

Jillian Michaels also has an app that is good for designing your own workout/recipes and healthy eating and access to all her dvds.

Doing 20 to 30 mins a day and a reduced diet worked for me. I have eggs, feta, spinach for breakfast, lentils veg and some wholegrain rice for dinner and then small portion of veg and lentil pasta for dinner. Also have a few biscuits during the day with my coffee to keep me sane. And often times have had pizza etc I've lost quite a bit of weight doing it this way, as it's easy to maintain. Walking more also helps alot. Best of luck!
