Refund of delivery costs?

7 replies

BodenCardiganNot · 07/11/2024 11:17

I bought some items online recently and returned them all. I paid the initial delivery charge and also the return charges.
The retailer is refusing to refund the initial delivery charge - my understanding is that if the full order is returned then the delivery charge should be refunded too. Does anyone know if that is correct?

I think it depends on the retailer but no they don't have to refund delivery if you change your mind. Otherwise they would be out of pocket for you changing your mind

Yes they should be refunding the standard delivery charge if you return the whole order.

You can return for change of mind reasons when it's an online order. It's different from buying instore

@dementedpixie
I have sent them a link to the Citizens Advice page where it states this. They disagree. Do you have any info on any other site I could send them? And thank you!

The legislation

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/regulation/34
The trader must reimburse all payments, other than payments for delivery, received from the consumer, subject to paragraph (10).(2) The trader must reimburse any payment for delivery received from the consumer, unless the consumer expressly chose a kind of delivery costing more than the least expensive common and generally acceptable kind of delivery offered by the trader(3) In that case, the trader must reimburse any payment for delivery received from the consumer up to the amount the consumer would have paid if the consumer had chosen the least expensive common and generally acceptable kind of delivery offered by the trader.
