Do you live somewhere full of nature? Where?!

Do you live somewhere full of wildlife? If so, where do you live?! I don't see much where I am, wondering whether I need to get out more or whether there's anywhere the wildlife just, wanders about?! I'm meaning native species. Curlew. Yellowhammer. Otter. Fritillaries. Orchids. Red squirrels.

Edge of a town.

Lots of squirrels, foxes and loads of birds including birds of prey, who occasionally leave bits of their lunch on the lawn. Around a mile away in fields, river and woodland have seen deer, rats, voles, pheasants, herons, swans, geese, evidence of moles, an adder.

Live in one of the national parks. Today there’ll be ponies, donkeys, cattle, deer wandering about. Grey squirrels, rabbits and foxes . And right now pigs and sheep are let loose. You can walk for miles through their shit, mixed in with endless dog poo owners don’t pick up because they think it’s harmless and breaks down. When it rains the earth and assorted poo all turns to one smelly, muddy mess you have to wade through. Such fun.

Lots of bird life, no idea what most of them are, but at least they don’t poo quite as much.

Red squirrels are only mersea island, isle of wight and the Highlands of Scotland.

I grew up in Aberdeenshire and we used to see them in the local woods.

I believe they are making a bit of a comeback up there these days 🤞

I’ve always adored them. Squirrel Nutkin was my favourite story as a child 🥰

I live on the edge of a very built up part of Glasgow. I look down a very small street at the end of which is a field.

I've seen deer, rabbits, some sort of hawk, parrots, foxes and one day there was a little frog sat at my door.
I wondered if the frog was dropped by a bird as it was quite a bit away from any water.

Also have horses walking along the street but they have riders lol.

Red squirrels are only mersea island, isle of wight and the Highlands of Scotland.

There are other areas of England Wales and Scotland that have reds, including parts of Northumberland, Cumbria, IoW, Brownsea Island Dorset, North Wales, Perthshire, a spot in Merseryside, and Scilly. They are also found on the island of Ireland.

There won't be a resurgence of reds unless we stop encroaching on their habitat, the spread of the greys has been overstated in their impact on reds as they live in different habitats.

There used to be reds here in the Forest but if you look at historical information on squirrels of the New Forest it's mostly about how much of a pest they were and how to dispatch them. Thankfully we've changed the image of them but too late for our local population

I live in a town but regularly see foxes, herons, jays, woodpeckers, squirrels ,seagulls, wagtails, Canadian geese, moor hens ,hedgehogs, munt deer ,robins, magpies, blackbirds, crows, ravens, frogs, toads, can hear owls and I saw what looked like some bird of prey last week . They were very high up though and there were three of them .They looked like the size of a red kite but looked a paler colour underneath.
I love this thread my dream is to move to a seaside that is by an estuary teeming with wildlife. I know exactly where I want to go.
