Just an open shoe rack or something closed, for the hall?

I feel like closed is neater.
But we have a very slim hall so it needs to be under 30cm depth.

I can't do the superslim ikea type ones pictured as most of the people in the house wear large workboots and they wouldn't fit in.

In any deal or should I just resign myself to an open rack?

I dislike the cluttered look of an open shoe rack, but like you couldn’t fit things into those wall things. So I went for a half way house - I bought wooden cubes from Muji and baskets which fit inside them and put the shoes into the baskets.

I have a small ottoman. Useful to sit on to put on/remove footwear. Shoes all go inside.

Definitely closed. Open is more convenient but inevitably gets clogged with mounds of dust.

Is it possible to find one where you can remove the centre shelf from one of the compartments to fit the boots? Though it wouldn't hold many pairs.

I've looked but they all are too deep and the ones that are very slim don't look like they'll fit many boots in

We have the Hemnes cabinet you linked and put our walking boots in sideways, so the length of the boot isn't an issue. My DHs boots push the middle plastic divider up slightly (size 11) but mine don't (size 5), we can get 2 pairs of boots and a pair of trainers on the bottom section of each compartment. Not sure if it would work for you, it depends on how many pairs of boots you have

The one pictured in your OP wouldn't be suitable for a hall anyway, IMO - I think that looks more suitable for clean shoe storage in say a bedroom.

You wouldn't want dirty or wet boots put in a closed cupboard in the hall, so I think an open rack is the only solution, as long as there are not too many pairs left there!

I reckon the doors would be quite impractical with people coming into a narrow hallway.

I have just bought one from Wayfair. It is deceptively roo:y
