My dh needs an easy way to trim his beard!

Surely.. surely.. surely I’m not the only one who thinks he’s a) being lazy b) afraid of messing up his face

my dh goes to the barbers SO frequently- hair and beard. The amount of money he’s spending for someone to do his beard is insane. He must spend over £60 a month on this.

anyway, I never had a problem but we need to cut our costs - I’d never push this on him but if I gifted him something that could help him do his own beard it would help us!

any recommendations ?

Maybe he also enjoys the experience.
Can you imagine though, if a guy came on here and said DW getting her roots done every 6-8 weeks is lazy and she should buy box dye and do it at home?
Are there any other areas you can cut costs, or anything you personally can give up?

First point I agree with but your second point no. Why should @bungletru have to give up something she does to enable her husband to keep up an expensive habit?

You can buy beard trimmers of course, but I assume there's a reason he doesn't want to do that. Does he have a very elaborate styling of it, something that would be hard to achieve without expertise?

@YouAreExtraExtra i don’t do anything for myself in this way so no. I am about to go on mat leave and will have very little anyway. I don’t get my hair done, get a cut every year or 6 months if I’m lucky. No dying. No longer get to go have regular massages. So it’s not me being an a-hole. Just a genuine request for recommendations.
he spends loads on football and season tickets etc. not asking him to give that up but the amount he spends on a task he could potentially do himself is not me being unreasonable.

@PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich it’s literally a trim and he shaves down the shaped area himself once it’s been done. He just has never been confident to trim it down because he isn’t great at using tools lol

@PinkyGold thanks.

I think you have bigger problems.

You spend barely any money and have given up massages and are about to go in maternity leave... And he spends 60 a month on beard trims and loads on football tickets?

He should be proactively cutting back.

It baffles me how in some relationship one partner is happy to spend on themselves whilst the other doesn't get to. Absolutely wild and I couldn't imagine being in that sort of dynamic.

Beard trimmer and offer to do it for him?

I think its more that I don’t have the time / see my money being spent better elsewhere (on kids, food etc)
Although, I see your point lol.

Just a standard beard trimmer? Don’t need anything out the ordinary then?

A standard beard trimmer is fine, don't buy the cheapest. It comes with various bits and bobs too to help shape things if need be. It's always easier if someone else does it though so give it a go.

Thank you! Perfect Christmas present 😂

Lots of barbering videos on Youtube to guide whichever one of you trims it. I have cut Dh's hair and beard for 20 years. Get him to ask the barber what number guards he uses so you can replicate it.

Why don't you have the time?

Sounds like you do have bigger problem if he has the time and money to waste on football, he takes the children with him of course doesn't he?, and you don't have the time even if you wanted to spend the money for a massage.

The Gilette style master (stubble level beard) or beard trimmer (longer) would be good options imo, easy to use and inexpensive.
