Whatayear2023 · 05/11/2024 23:38

I say emergency my washing machine is packed up and a house with 5 kids and my bowel issues it's a necessity.
I have tried numerous sites argos very curry's ao etc and none will allow me to get credit for a washing machine.
I'm not on electoral roll due to dv and risk of being found. I don't have other credit I have sim only for basic phone etc. My gas ele are prepayment etc.
I have universal credit only and I asked about the budgeting loan which I cannot get as already have advance payment loan from when I went on uc.
Does anyone know of any other companies that provide weekly or monthly for a washing machine in these circumstances ? I've spent most of day to no avail.
I can't take clothes to johnsons for eg due to my condition. No family/friends to do it.

Ask on NextDoor or your local Facebook group if anyone is getting rid of a washing machine?

YarnChicken · 05/11/2024 23:45

Nobody will give you credit without being registered to vote. You can register to vote and be hidden from view on the public electoral roll.

CroysantNotKwason · 05/11/2024 23:47

Have you tried renting one? Might have better luck with that if you're desperate. Search for washing machine rental in your area.

My 'nextdoor' is full of washing machines free or dirt cheap offering free delivery,

banks offering 0% credit cards, but probably only to people who don't need them 🙄

Look/ask on your local freecycle/eco community facebook groups- they come up quite frequently on my local groups. Alternatively can you get an eBay cheapie? Our last one cost £20 and lasted us 5 years.

Contact British Gas. They have an emergency white goods scheme. If you are under HARV or anything they too can assist with this so perhaps call them.
if you have a local Salvation Army they have a lot of contacts who can help.
good luck op x

Do you have a British heart foundation furniture shop near you? They might have one.

I'm sorry that you are in this predicament.

Nobody will give you credit without being registered to vote. You can register to vote and be hidden from view on the public electoral roll.

The problem is that if you opt for hidden from view, then it is hidden from the credit checkers. I remember failing a credit check for a flat partly because of not being on the electoral register, as I've always opted for hidden due to my job, and stranding in the rental agency's office and waving my poll card at them, as I'd only voted the week before, and hadn't got round to throwing it out.

Yes that's what I did, it's simple to set up too

Gingerkittykat · 06/11/2024 04:06

It is worth googling to see if there are any credit unions in your area, they offer lower cost loans to people on benefits and people with bad credit ratings.

Your council might have a welfare fund which can help out with white goods.

HomeTheatreSystem · 06/11/2024 04:15

Can you put out a message on a local FB group asking if anyone has one going for free or as good as? You can just say it needs to be in good working order as it will be subject to daily use. No need to buy a brand new one if finances are tight. I'm sure someone will be able to help.

MargaretThursday · 06/11/2024 07:19

Our council has a credit system for white goods for people on UC.
Locally things like Rotary or the Lions club also will help if possible.
Try talking to Citizens Advice. They'll know of how to get help.

Sandandsea123 · 06/11/2024 07:39

Do you get child benefit? Contact your local credit union. They will likely lend to you, it gets paid back direct from child benefit

femfemlicious · 06/11/2024 07:44

You should register for family fund. Do you have a social worker?. Check on gumtree

femfemlicious · 06/11/2024 07:53

https://www.familyfund.org.uk/

Also Search for charity organisations that help low income families. Check turn to us. Get a social worker.

Family Fund

You can register to vote but be hidden, I am.

There's orgs out there that can help but try asking on your local facebook group or next door, plenty of people have them in garages awaiting getting rid following getting new ones it seems from ours

Whatayear2023 · 06/11/2024 16:46

Thanks. Tried the links and most need to be done by approved partner social worker etc.
I don't have a social worker. I did have fb but it was deleted by advise of solicitor womens aid etc at time.
Yes that's what I mean re electoral roll I'm hidden so when you do a search on me there is no me to credit checkers.
I've found one of those out door washing and drying machines so will just have to save a few months and use this in meantime. At least I can put own washing in machine so it's not embarrassing for me.
I'll keep checking ebay for free or cheap and have set alerts but nearest atm is 50 miles away and that's 120 quid so that's a no way.
Thanks all for advise it's such a pain in bum when something like this happens

Credit agencies use the FULL electoral roll, not the one which can be bought for marketing or accessed by the public. Being "hidden" on the list should not affect your ability to get credit, there must be something else going on.

Sandandsea123 · 06/11/2024 16:53

Where abouts are you OP? There’s tons of free washing machines on my local Facebook marketplace
