reception child (nearly 5) can't sit still in carpet time

My DD is 5 in December (started reception I. September) and has had ant least 3 comments after school from teacher that she is too fidgety, especially at carpet time (registers etc)

Today she apparently was hands on floor and feet up the wall upside down.

She focuses on tasks/reading/writing and crafts and stuff really well. She completes them quickly and doesn't do this during these focus times.

She just REALLY struggles to sit still at carpet time, and also struggles to wait to say what's in her mind at these times.

They had a midwife come and chat to them about the work she does, and DD apparently couldn't wait/put her hand up without talking about t. She was on topic, and talking about babies and asking questions, she just can't hold back.

Is there any wisdom that can be shared to help her?

At 5 i think this is not uncommon and i would be asking the teacher what ideas she has to help your DD. A fiddle toy for example might help. Its a bit disappointing if the teacher is reporting to you without any ideas for solutions.

Ah bless her, many children can sit happily at carpet time but some cannot. My son had sensory issues at that age and absolutely could not sit still. An occupational therapist explained it as his brain telling his body to move so it could make sense of things. It’s called propreoception and it s a sense of knowing where your body is in the environment. Some children have a well developed sense of this and some still have to catch up.
What’s important is that the class teacher takes this in her stride and accepts that it will come with time.

in the end they gave my son some theraputty to fidget with and it helped massively.

They tried giving her a wobble cushion, but she hated it. Made her sad and angry and she couldn't explain why, so I told the teacher to remove it.

But, I think she will grow out of it, and they need to be firm with her about what is expected, I think they're a bit soft really 🤷‍♀️
