Would this look suspicious an item for sale much cheaper than it should be ?

If you saw an item for sale marked as new that should be around £1000 new but was on sale for half that amount would you think it was a scam?
Desperately need to sell something and just want rid of it so wanted to price it much lower but it’s going to look weird isn’t it

No, because I never pay full price for a second hand item. I would want to see it first for that money though

DogInATent · 05/11/2024 10:52

Depends what it is and how it's presented.

If you're selling your ex-DH's new golf clubs after he walked out on you then 10% of market value would be perfectly acceptable.

Somethings devalue after purchase (used or not) more quickly than others.

That’s good to know I haven’t ever sold anything before so just don’t want to look dodgy !

What is the normal second hand selling price of the item?

UnderTheCover · 05/11/2024 10:54

I never sell anything second-hand for more than half the retail price. So no, wouldn't look suspicious to me at all.

It’s a brand new pushchair with all attachments and additional carrycot etc all still in boxes I just don’t want it to look too good to be true. I equally don’t want to put the reason I want to sell it asap as I think that’ll put people off and they’ll think it might be unlucky

I was going to say ‘unwanted gift’ maybe I should price a bit higher but then be far too easy to bargain with ?

I don’t know I will have to check

OP posts:
Alifemadelessordinary · 05/11/2024 10:58

Prams and push chairs don't hold their value at all OP. I don't think people will look at it an think it's too good to be true.

As for the reason, could you say you've been gifted another?

Rightiojames · 05/11/2024 10:59

Mark it for £10-20 under the lowest price you find and it'll be taken off your hands quickly. Sorry for your loss (inferring from your posts this is the reason for sale). You don't need to tell anyone your personal business when selling an item so "unwanted gift" is fine.

Wouldthislooksuspicious · 05/11/2024 10:59

It’s the new one of it’s make just out recently (purchased in August) so if I sell it now it’s current is what I was thinking ? I was going to say unwanted gift I think

Yes that’s why , thankyou for your kind words.

I just feel like I need to sell it asap but didn’t want to look strange

Thanks all. Im
going to check the lowest price I can find it for and try to sell for a bit less than that but be extremely open to even lower offers

You're overthinking it, as long as you use your own photos and not stock images you'll be fine. Prams are sold frequently on selling sites and someone will be grateful for the bargain.

FusionChefGeoff · 05/11/2024 11:05

Make sure the photos you use are real not online listings - maybe with a person in them to reassure people it's a real item. Sometimes I've seen people holding up todays paper in the photo to prove item exists and they're real

I'm so sorry you're in this position and I hope you can get a quick sale.

Are you sure you can't take it back?? If the model is still on sale and you find a sympathetic customer service person they may agree to go outside normal terms?

It’s more than 60 days so I can only get a store credit not a refund and I don’t really want a store credit

So sorry for your loss. Could you take it back and get the store credit, then sell the store credit? Somebody would be thrilled with 1000 credit in store for say 750?

I wouldn't say unwanted gift, because people will try to haggle you down a lot or take the pee if they think you got it for free (a lot of people's mindset is, you should be happy to get anything for it if it was free to you :/).

Maybe you could say you're moving abroad.

momager1 · 05/11/2024 11:21

I am assuming that a store credit would be in a gift card form?

I’m going to find out as if so it would be something I could sell I wasn’t sure if it would only be in my name though so I’m going to try and find out as that could be an option

outofideas2 · 05/11/2024 11:23

Also, if you have the headspace to do it, if you explain your reasons for returning the store may waive their 60 day limit.

ClivetheDestroyer · 05/11/2024 11:36

There are some websites where you can sell giftcards if that helps?
