Healthy ready meals

I like the Charlie Bighams fish pie occasionally as a quick dinner. I wouldn't consider it a highly processed food given the ingredients list. Have I got this wrong? I think of it like a home cooked meal but just prepped for you. Happy to be corrected!

If so, are there any other similar options. Healthy ready meals that aren't processed.

Yes, Cook! They claim to be like home-cooked meals, and use quality ingredients. I have used them for years, having them delivered for me, especially when I get a discount voucher. Delicious, if rather more expensive than supermarket meals, but on a par with Charlie Bigham.

As someone with chronic illness, I often have a tin or two of the M&S chunky steak in. Some microwave veg and potatoes and it’s a lovely dinner. It’s so lean and tasty, albeit a tad expensive.

I agree with the Cook suggestion. They also do a new parent discount. They have some really nice (not so healthy) desserts too.

Many ready meals are high in fat and salt. That fish pie has over 1/3 of your daily intake of salt in it. A quick look at sainsburys shows its the highest salt content for any fish pie they sell 0.65g per 100g! I'm sure its fine in moderation. Their 'Be good to yourself' range seems much better, but likely doesn't taste as nice.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll have a look at Cook and Eddie Abbew too. It would be help to increase the variety of quick meals we make.

Could you batch cook into portions? Get out of the freezer in the morning, defrost in the fridge then heat in the evening with a simple salad/garlic bread/veg side, depending on the meal? Home made meals are generally much healthier overall than ready meals!
