Letter about life insurance 5 years after death….

Is this likely to be legit? My uncle has had a letter trying to track down my dad’s next of kin. We found out after his death that he’d put most of his money into life insurance policies but his filing was chaotic to say the least so I wouldn’t be surprised if one was missed. I didn’t deal with his paperwork as my mum was still alive at that point but as she’s now gone I can’t ask her if this rings a bell. The letter is from Phoenix Ltd which was previously Royal Sun Alliance. It looks perfectly legitimate but I’ve had so many scammy phone calls and emails recently it’s made me suspicious of everything!! Anyone with any insight?

Scam letters are not unheard of but unusual, as there is a up-front cost to the scammers, which usually they want to try and avoid, hence why they use email/phones with unlimited minutes etc, so it could be legit.

You'll know its a scam if they try and get money out of you to release funds etc

I would look up Royal Sun Alliance online and phone/email the contact details on there, rather than anything from the letter, just in case.

Dh received a letter from a company who were trying to find relatives of a great aunt who had died. He turned out to be one of five beneficiaries and received a percentage of her estate once costs had been paid.

Thanks, I thought a scam letter would be unusual plus it went to my uncle not me and it’s asked for nothing other than contact details (so far anyway). Good idea to contact them direct rather than using the details on the letter. I hate that we have to be so wary these days.

The letter also gives the option of writing to them with my details and the address matches the one they provide online. Looks like this might be legit
