Or at least supervise them?

8 and 6 here and my 8 year old also has issues with their teeth which makes them more likely to decay so our compromise is similar in that we do the night time brush, they do the morning one (not very well!). It’s all they’ve known so they don’t seem to mind too much.

From 4 my daughter would brush her own teeth, I brushed mine alongside her so she learned by watching rather than having it done for her.

9 now and has perfect teeth.

Mix of us and doing it herself for my 5 year old. Dentist says her teeth are perfect so we're clearly doing just fine with it. Doing a 10 year olds for them seems rather OTT!

My oldest is 7 and I still do it for her by starting off and doing a quick brush round her mouth then I get her to continue herself for the rest of the 2 minutes. She definitely wouldn't do it properly if left to her own devices! She has ASD though so is likely to need help longer than average.

My younger child I can see being independent a bit earlier but I'll probably keep helping til the recommended age anyway.

My teeth were a mess when I was a kid and I had loads taken out so I'd like better for them.

Our dentist said until 9. I was delighted when my eldest finally got to do her own.

I still brush my 6 year olds teeth and don't plan on stopping any time soon. I used to just run the tap and pretend to brush my teeth as a child and have terrible teeth as a result. I want better for my children.
