Help! Water leak from shower

Mylittlebobble · 03/11/2024 19:45

Posting in chat for traffic. Our upstairs shower seems to have leaked, resulting in water running down the walls in the kitchen and hall. I've got towels on the floor and turned off lights downstairs etc. House is under warranty so tomorrow can phone the builder. But, is there anything we need to do now? Should we phone our insurance? Advice appreciated.

How much water are you talking?

is it still running or only when you turn the shower on?

Have you turned off water at the mains? That would help with damage limitation.
Have you looked to see if you have the household emergencies insurance that comes with some credit/bank cards?
Otherwise ring your insurer. Based on our experience, they will try to palm off the actual repair onto your builder, but it seems you have got that covered. They will probably pay to make good any damage caused by the leak.

Thanks both. Think leak was just the shower water so stopped once that water had come through. I've put the heating on and the dehumidifier to dry things out. I'm waiting on confirmation from after sales whether plumber is coming today or tomorrow. We've turned lights back on downstairs after we got confirmation that this was OK. Have to wait and see how big a job sorting it out is, but we're lucky that we've got an ensuite. Appreciate you taking the time to reply @TrickyD @Wolfi3

You need a plumber to determine whether the leak is at the shower, the waste pipe or seal. That won't be covered by house insurance unless you have a particular policy for it but subsequent damage should be.

Well, the plumber came round this evening. Luckily, it turned out to be something quite simple had come loose. It's easily sorted but poorly designed as apparently it happens all the time. But, looking on the bright side that my bathroom doesn't need mucking about with.

So pleased the problem was easily sorted. You can certainly do without major works to your bathroom on the run-up to Christmas.
