Where is my diet going wrong and keeping me obese?

I am mid 50s. Weigh 94 kg.
Always been curvy, have lipedema (heavy diet -resistant legs) on HRT.
Spent years on low fat artificial sweetener type diets, now for the last 5 years eat less UPF, no low fat anything. Try to be reasonably low carb.

I am doing intermittent fasting (16/8) since early Aug and have lost 4.5 kg but it's painfully slow.
Tried mounjaro back in Spring but had to come off it after it triggered terrible panic attacks.

I am photographing my meals for my intermittent fasting app. Here is yesterday's food - spinach omelette for brunch and a bean and courgette stew for dinner. I had 2 slices of home made bread, a handful of mixed nuts, and an apple as well as what is pictured. Will add a couple of other days as well. Is it the carbs?

I have noticed I don't drink enough - about 1.5 litres a day of tea, coffee, diet coke (1 can a day, I think it's an addiction) and squash or water. Would that make a huge difference?

@ViciousCurrentBun I must start doing this. It is so easy to just scroll endlessly for half an hour in your lunch-break. I must really take a leaf out of your book!!

Evening all! Daily plate.

I have hit upon the brilliant idea of popping an egg on my plate to help with scale and put an end to portiongate, lol.
Please note - the egg is just for scale. I did not eat it!

If anyone is wondering why I am still doing daily plates, they keep me on the straight and narrow somehow (and I was 0.8 kg down today, so 92.2kg down from 94 odd at the start of this thread. So it's working and I am carrying on. I have a vague idea that in 2000 years someone will find the thread and the pictures and it will be a fascinating social history....! Delusions of grandeur!

Anyway I only have one plate to show as I had a terrible low blood sugar headache this morning and so very unusually had an emergency McDonald's. I got a 5 chicken selects medium meal (940 odd calories iirc) and shared it with my daughter. I probably had 600 cal of it (she had 2 of the selects and half the chips).

Then home made mini pizzas for tea on low carb bread.

Not the best day but I didn't eat anything else -except a plum- after that big lunch!

Btw I rather like a konjac noodle! If covered in something flavoursome they are fine.
I did get mine from Amazon I am afraid, ages ago, then forgot about them.

I get that they're good for bulking out a meal, I just find them weird, tasteless and the texture is odd.

Loving the egg in comparison size

Although it’s obviously an ostrich egg as OPs portions and plates are so massive. 🤪😂

Love a McDonald’s! Delivery charges on JustEat are nuts now though.

I think @SummerFeverVenice's point about hitting a plateau is spot on; I have always found it harder to lose weight when I have been lighter.

Absolutely loving the comparison egg.

I'm gonna get some of those noodles as want to feel fuller!

Really missing McDonald's but I always buy the same thing there which is a Big Mac meal and one of their milkshakes. So can't really do that!

Those pizzas look delightful! 😋

BoobsGalore · 22/11/2024 21:02

Daily plates!!!

Lunch is in two pictures today. Finished the Amalfi salad I made Thurs and had it with celeriac soup and a piece of focaccia.

Mid afternoon I had a small piece of Chinese ribs

Dinner was steak and veggies. I overestimated the veggies and didn't finish them. The steak was delicious btw.

Egg is of course just for scale 😂

Lool loving the egg for scale.

BoobsGalore · 23/11/2024 20:22

Saturday
Breakfast, because of a headache - low carb toast and peanut butter
Lunch was cauliflower cheese. I forgot to photograph it until I was half way through
Afternoon snack was peanuts and olives
Dinner was bolognaise sauce (home made) on courgetti. And a small raspberry panacotta.

Scaling egg shows that my portions are genuinely not huge....

The scaling egg is a fab idea. Glad you are keeping on going OP. This is just a plateau, you’re doing great.

LadyGabriella · 24/11/2024 16:04

Looking good, keep it up

BoobsGalore · 24/11/2024 19:37

Another day another plate. Today I had late breakfast and tea.

The brown sludge is finger millet porridge a Ugandan dish that I love. Served with a desert spoon of raisins mixed in. Yum.

Dinner (with measuring egg) was salmon with cauliflower "rice" and as a Sunday night treat, a meringue nest with berries and a little cream

As well as this I had olives, a serving of ready salted crisps, a slice of cheese, and some cherries which was my lunch.

Like the measuring egg. Does it travel with you? Do you wash it off each time? Will it be changed for a younger model at some point?

I cannot swear it is the identical egg every time....
Yes it gets washed off if necessary :)

Is it true that our tummies at rest are the size of an egg or is that a myth?

I only have 20% of mine left so whats that, an acorn?

I dont have a measuring acorn to hand.

How did you come to be without 80 percent of your tum? Sorry to hear that :(

Well google says 12 inches long by 6 wide.

Uteruses on the other hand are so small considering a whole baby fits in them that can be 10lb.

BackOnTheAntibiotics · 25/11/2024 08:25

Your diet is really carb heavy and the reason you are addicted to diet coke is that it has phenylalanine in it, a protein that your body is craving.

Eat more meat and lots of animal fats.
