Cinema Questions

My daughter would like to go to the cinema with some friends for his birthday and I'm trying to work out timings!

I don't go very often - so if a film is advertised as starting at 2.10 does that mean when the adverts and trailers start (cinewoeld of it makes a difference).

Do they aim to go in at 2.10 (ie meet them outside at 2?)

If its 96 mins do I plan 2.10 plus 96 mins or 96 + ads before I pick them up? And how long are ads??

It's a kids film and cineworld if it makes any difference.

Also at 12/13 should I be nearby if there's a group of them. As in go for coffee nearby (for 2 hours?!). If just my kids or kid and a friend I'd go home but as it's a group of them I guess I should be nearby?

Thankyou

Published time is time the ads start, so I'd arrange to meet st that time, so they cannot get tickets and go to the loo. I'd give it film time plus 20 mins for ads (yes, there's normally more but wouldn't want to be late and also they won't stay for all credits) when planning to collect.

Do uou know the group well? I'd go home if I was confident they'd be sensible but stay nearby if they're are unknown entity in case dd wanted support with any behaviour etc.

Fab that's perfect! We want to allow time for food after in terms of parents picking up and I couldn't work it out!!

I think Ill be nearby. They're quite sensible but I don't know them well and you never know who else is there do you.

Thankyou.

How old are they? Have they been to the cinema much before?

It's easier to get your group settled if you go in before the ads start, while the lights are still on. So I'd be inclined to get them in earlier rather than later.

It's pretty unlikely that anyone would need you while the film is under way... so you'd probably be ok going home, if it's not far and they're old enough to look after themselves.

My child has been a couple of times a year maybe. Not sure about the friends (secondary so new friends).

Yes no harm them being early - they can chat can't they!

But I'll allow "start time + runtime + 20" for when I expect to pick them up then! But will be around in case it's a bit earlier.

I think we've just turned up before and as I'm driving never thought about it really!

Cineworld's films actually start 20 minutes after the advertised time. The 20 minutes are ads and trailers. You could turn up at, say, 3.30pm when the film is advertised at 3pm but you'd miss the first 10 minutes of the actual film.

I'd suggest you arrange for the friends to meet at 3pm to get tickets, snacks, etc. Get into the screen, coats off, settling in, all ready for a 3.20pm film start. Iyswim!

I go regularly as I have one of their unlimited cards and it's normal for people to be bumbling in and out, settling in, getting up and out again and all that malarkey until the film starts.

OldTinHat · 03/11/2024 10:37

Oh, and the lights don't go off properly until the film starts. They're dimmed for the adverts and stuff then turned off for the film.

And another thought! My local has a car park attached which only allows 3hrs free parking. I check the length of the film, add on the 20 minutes adverts, then work out what time it will finish in case the car park runs out before.

Just to help with your picking up time!

Just phone the cinema and ask what time the film finishes.
