Frequent nosebleeds in child

How often would make you worry ?

DD has roughly 3 a week , self limiting, lasting 5mins to 10 mins with the occasional one lasting 30 mins

Then nothing for a month or so and then it starts again

Ive not bothered the GP yet - would you worry?

My DS has had phases of nosebleeds which i think are linked to stress. The GP gave him some cream to try and break the cycle, as my DS kept picking the scabs and making it bleed more.

Sounds exactly like my childhood, I was very experienced with nose bleeds 😅

Not much you can do to stop them happening, however high doses of vitamin C can strengthen the capillaries. I also took a shot of cayenne pepper(stops and prevents bleeding) but REALLY wouldn't recommend this to anyone who doesn't have a steel stomach.

The frequency of them slowed down for me once I was an adult (and actually stopped altogether when I became pregnant with my eldest).

You should be going to A&E for nosebleeds lasting more than 15minutes

I would go to the GP, if they are that frequent I would be keeping an eye on iron levels, nosebleeds are a main cause of anaemia in premenstrual girls / children.

There are a few serious medical issues that have nose bleeds as a symptom and ofcourse it is probably nothing but I'd want to be sure.

My son and daughter both have bad nose bleeds, as did I as a child. Can last for 30 mins or more, weather, growing , stress, heat can cause them. Find icepack on neck helps.

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a GP appointment, we had one and they said it is just a weakness they have, but it has helped us not worried. Son is now 21, still has them but no real issues
