Can someone tell me about the prescribing process for weight loss injections please?

I’ve read a lot of threads on here about Mounjaro and the like and asked a couple of times but not had a response. I’ve also googled and still don’t understand.

Do you have a consultation before taking it? Do you actually speak to someone about your medical and mental health history, other medication that you’re taking and get advice on which is the best brand and how to use it and things to look out for etc? I see people talking about sending photos etc, is that all you have to do?

I work with young people with mental health challenges and a few of them identify as trans and buy hormones online, it scares me that many of them have never had an assessment and are putting this stuff in their body with no medical oversight etc. Some of them are very mentally unwell and shouldn’t be making decisions like this unaided but these companies just don’t care.

So I worry about the organisations selling weight loss injections and their practices, whilst I understand that if you have struggled with your weight it is a great solution, I just worry that the companies are taking short cuts which put people at risk.

Obviously if they do consultations etc and speak to the GP that’s totally different but I can’t find that information out.

I’ve recently got MOUNJARO from Superdrug online. I had to submit photographic evidence of my weight (full body side view pic) and pic of the scales with my feet, both with a note with the date on. I had to check that I had a second health issues (in my case high cholesterol). Apparently It was reviewed by a Superdrug doctor and I received the authorisation a few hours later. Had my first injection a few days ago. Tbh my GP surgery is so chaotic there is no one keeping tabs of the overall umbrella picture of my health apart from me.

Thank you for sharing, that sounds really efficient. Also like it relies very much on you being honest?

Maybe that’s the thing, personal responsibility, not a bad thing at all and I guess it reduces traffic to GPs.

I used MedExpress.

I declared my weight and height, agreed they could let me GP know, and answered loads of questions about whether I had other conditions/illnesses. They approved (in principle, I suppose) and I paid.

Then I had to upload a full length face-on photo so they could see my body shape, and a photo of my ID (so they could see that the body photo was me?).

Sounds like there are safeguards, that’s reassuring. Thank you
