What age do you think you entered perimenopause?

Just out of curiosity, i suppose, what age do you think you started perimenopause?

I'm late 30's and not particularly looking forward to it.

All my friends in their late 30’s/ early 40’s are ttc , they would be so depressed reading this . I never hear people in rl in our late 30’s talk about menopause but maybe it’s denial

LoremIpsumCici · 01/11/2024 10:12

Pretty sure peri started at age 50. That was when I started to get irregular periods.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/11/2024 10:15

For me I was fine at 40 and for at least the first few years of my 40s. From 44 onwards it really ramped up but it seemed like it crept up on me gradually with different peri symptoms every few months.

Fascinating thread! I’m 41 and so far I have the night sweats, some mood swings - but then I was always quite moody - and exterme hornyness.

Re night sweats, any tips? I don’t drink much already and don’t eat spicy food that often.

Around 42

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/11/2024 10:33

In retrospect, probably 41/42, but o think it was masked by having DD three weeks before my 41st birthday. I was incredibly tired, short tempered, absent minded, aneamic, lost loads of weight (delibetstejy) which I piled back on. My periods were very light after DD was born.

RedeemingCreature · 01/11/2024 10:33

45

I've always been a sound sleeper, but my sleep suddenly became really disrupted and I was waking up at 2am feeling hot and with a pounding heart.

My periods changed at around 40, though. Much heavier and my cycle got shorter.

Nothatgingerpirate · 01/11/2024 10:36

I'm 45 and honestly don't have any idea.
My Gran entered menopause at 67, my Mother at 62. 😳
I have thyroid issues, so really clueless whether perimenopause started or not.
😐

It can be hard to tell IMO!

I was 40 when my periods started getting really unpredictable (heavy / light / long / short / early / late etc) whereas previously they had followed a fairly consistent pattern, so I thought that was the beginning of peri.

However, I'm now 50, still having regular periods (still with the uncertainty mentioned above), and not many other symptoms of menopause either (maybe a bit of brain fog). So I'm not sure if I've been in peri for 10 years or I'm not yet in it at all! Answers on a postcard please.

Bikechic · 01/11/2024 14:43

I'm 51 and no signs as yet. My periods are still going strong. Maybe a slightly shorter cycle, but that's all.

BringMeTea · 01/11/2024 14:45

38/39.

I do feel like something shifted in me from 35ish. Doctors just kept saying “you’re very young”. They still do now I’m early 40’s

I was diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis last year at the age of 50 after decades of gynae issues.

How have you been getting on with the HRT? I tried it and it made my pain worse (I do also suffer from a failed uterine ablation). The gynaes have now advised me to avoid hrt especially as my mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

Helped with hot flushes at first. Now I’m not so sure. Been suffering from post menopausal bleeding which when you have Endo is not fun.
Been having scans for 18 months just had a biopsy non malignant.
So now it’s a wait to see what happens next.
Been diagnosed with Endo at such a late stage shows how broken female healthcare is.
And finally and most importantly I am so sorry to hear about your mum. How is she getting on? X
