A few thousand in inheritance - SEN kids

I’m due to receive a few thousand pounds of inheritance, and I’ve got 2 pre-teen kids with SEN and I have a few chronic health difficulties myself.

Has eldest has PDA which means it’s difficult to get him to agree to much, enjoy sports etc outside of school. Getting any respite is really difficult.

We went on a ‘big’ holiday this summer so I’m not looking for another hol. What would you spend the money on to make things easier or more enjoyable for the kids or the family.

I feel like there’s an opportunity for a nanny/babysitter for some respite care, although it would be work to find the right person.
Maybe putting some money aside for personal time off eg a gym membership.
Or putting money aside in case of a school breakdown, or driving lessons etc when they get older.
Maybe some sensory therapy? Not sure on the specifics of this.

Obviously trying to be non specific but ideas welcome. I’m just so very tired and feel like this is an opportunity to get some support we need.

Look what is your current most pressing need and do that

In a very similar position. I would get yourself some (smallish) treats and save it for when you need the help/some respite to support you.

I think if there is nothing shouting as at you as an immediate area of need I would look to save it as a buffer for when it is needed

I think a gym/spa membership and some childcare is a really good idea.
Do you and your DC like the cinema, if so how about a membership so you always have something to do.

Some help at home? Cleaner on a regular basis maybe?

I definitely think some you-time is good, gym or regular spa treatments if you like these.

Otherwise I would put money aside for later.

We employ two TAs from my sons' school for respite- they do holidays and occasional weekend days. We do get some funding for this but if it ever ended I would move heaven and earth to pay them ourselves- it makes a world of difference to all of us. So would recommend this!

Thanks all.

Yes there is nothing pressing at the moment - I never get to save anything because I’m always trying to make our lives easier day to day already.

I suppose I have the opportunity now to do something we haven’t been able to do before, I’m just not sure if there’s anything we can add that would bring a bit more support in. I don’t have family around who can help much so if I could buy a grandparent 😂 that would be useful!

No TAs available as his school is so far away. But perhaps looking for a person to help out in hols or occasional weekends might be the best idea, as well as savings .

That sounds like a really good idea. Or some help with cleaning.
