Toy kitchen for 1st birthday?

Would this be a good ‘main’ gift? Basically our youngest DS is 1 , on the 5th of January right after Christmas!
our eldest has his birthday the 28 December. So we have 2 close to christmas

we always try to buy toys they like and also some that’ll last the year (we do buy toys in the year too! But try to get main ones that’ll last :) if this makes sense?)

we’ve never had a toy kitchen ;DS1 will be 3 this year and his main presents have been a trike then a playground set as he’s always been active - less role play. This year it’s a bike with stabilisers as I say he only enjoys role play a little and we just moved to a bigger house so have space for more now

ive noticed even at a young age DS2 loves to play a bit more? dS1 would just constantly move😂

is a toy kitchen a bit old? I’m thinking it’s something he can grow with and play and it’ll last a while until too old?

A toy kitchen is a great present that they'll get loads of use out of. I think 12 months is a bit young, I think we got ours when youngest was 18 months and she liked it but struggled to reach. She was a late walker though.

I say go for it, but the 3yo will probably get a bit more use out of it than the little one at first.

We bought a wooden one for our daughter’s first birthday. She is playing with it this very moment at 4 and a half, as is her 2 year old sister. Gets played with most days. It’s been a good starting point for other smaller gifts like tea sets, cake sets, ice cream stands etc. all our food stuff and kitchen stuff is wooden and hard eating long lasting.

when my 6 year old nephew comes over he often plays with it too as he never had one (his dad felt - wrongly - it’s a girl toy)

thanks ! We did joke about this and said our 3yo will be straight over 🤣

youngest DS is pulling to stand and crawling so may nearly or may be walking then?

It’s so hard when both birthday and Christmas’ are sooo close! My friends baby is May birthday so it’s easier to split a bit😂

but I just thought maybe on his actual birthday he a bit young but it’s a toy he’ll grow with and use throughout the year

What about a mud kitchen? Some of the wooden ones are lovely

Ours got for 2nd birthday and got lias if use out of it. I think that was perfect age wise. 1 seems a bit young

Given how close both of their birthdays are to Christmas, I'd be tempted to give them relatively small gifts for their bdays and then have another special weekend late June/early July and give them some presents then. That spaces it out a bit more

Agree its a great toy, we got many years use out of ours. The ikea wooden one is v good and as a pp said you can add bits over the years. The velcro fruit and vege you "cut" in half was a winner. Wooden was far better, we had a plastic elc one to start with and it got easily pulled over if they lent on it. 1yo might be a bit young but would probably still enjoy banging around/putting things in cupboards etc pretty soon. Go for it, it's one of the things I felt was best value for money vs use.

It sounds a great joint present... but your older child will use it more un the coming months so unfair to call it a gift fir the 1yo. Especially as the 1yo definitely can't use the 3yos present!

Could you put the money aside and get something in Summer, we got DD kitchen role play equipment when she was 18 months (Christmas present) but she was securely walking at the time and used it at nursery.
