Royal Hallamshire hospital - traffic/parking. Any advice?

I have an appointment here in December but online seems to be full of tales of woe about traffic outside and no parking spaces.

Is it really that bad? Would I be better off parking in the city centre and getting public transport out to the hospital?
My appointment is at 4pm on a Saturday so I have no idea if traffic will be better or worse by then!
This is more stressful than the appointment itself!

The car park attached to the hospital is often closed due to being full. I now park in the Q Park on Durham Road and walk up. Yes, it is expensive but it's well lit, I've only once not been able to get a space (there was a graduation ceremony on) and the spaces are decently sized without a pillar next to every one.

I had a three week run of daily hospital visiting and a few more single weeks and by the end it was straight to the Q Park every time. You might be lucky and fall on a space in the on street parking closer to the hospital, I really don't know what parking that late in the day is like.

I go to the Royal Hallamshire regularly. There’s a multi- storey car park on-site which probably does fill up at busy times (I live very close to it, so don’t usually drive there) On- street parking round the hospital is very limited. But I’ve gone at the weekend by car, and it didn’t seem as busy, presumably because the outpatient clinics aren’t running. There’s no A+E department at the Hallamshire either.

If you can manage a 10-15 minute walk uphill, you could park in the city centre and get the Supertram to the University stop - the tram is very quick - and walk from there…or get a bus.

Feel free to PM me if I can assist further.

I think you'll be fine in the hospital multi storey car park on a Saturday. Ive been visiting my mother daily in the Hallamshire and the weekends were a breeze. If full however, as someone said upthread, there is a Q park just round the corner.

if you arent driving/cant get parked close by, youd actually be better getting a taxi from the centre , rather than public transport if you cant walk as the outpatients department isnt really that close to the public transport stops sadly. on a weekend and at that sort of time, shouldnt cost too much for a taxi from the centre for you :)

I usually park in the Broomhill shops rooftop parking. Always loads of space and a short walk to the hospital. Also allows you to stay for a long time and extend on the app, which can be helpful.

Are there any spaces close by on Just Park?

I've had a lot of success with this parking at hospitals with not enough parking. There is usually someone near by renting out their driveway.

In the many years that I've been visiting the Hallamshire I've failed to find parking in the hospital car park maybe once. I think you'll be fine.

Thank you for your replies! This is very helpful.
Having looked at my travel options I think I am going to get the train. It’s not easily doable from home but my DS will have to go to my parents and there is a direct service from where they live.
Then a taxi to the hospital - thank you for the advice about buses not taking me to outpatients.
