Can't believe how stupid I was

I managed to knock over a bottle of super glue whilst trying to repair a picture frame that was coming undone in one corner. Superglue all over the work surface and on my hands. I've managed to file most of it off my nails and skin and removed a bit more with acetone. I managed to remove some from the work surface, but can still see where it was. It's also somehow got on one kitchen cupboard! The only thing it didn't stick was the picture frame! I'm not trying again, I'll buy another one. It was WH Smith's own superglue and very runny. Won't be buying that again!

Anyone got ideas how to get the rest off the work surface and the cupboard? 🙏

No but you should have used pva ( wood glue is just rebranded pva)
Super glue dries too brittle and is infective for use on wood

Thank you, I'll bear it in mind if there's a next time.

That’s helpful. Maybe she can go back in time and do that.

Bit sarky.

It's ok to give advice incase something might happen again in the future, and anyway other people reading this might think it's a great tip?

Bad news @Imatorturedpoet I did something similar a couple of years ago. Was fixing an ornament, and got some superglue on the worktop (luckily near the tiles/kind of next to the wall, so it was easy to pop something on it, like a gravy boat, or a set of condiments.) It was only on there a minute maybe, and it would NOT come off. Still there. Nothing will get it off.

If it's 'all over the work surface' I think you may need to replace the work surface/worktop.

Hopefully someone else can give you better news/some good advice.

Yepyepyepducky · 30/10/2024 23:49

Sorry, I missed your advice @MSLRT .......
@Imatorturedpoet what material is the glue on? Laminate /wood etc

LauderSyme · 30/10/2024 23:59

Oh no, what an effing nightmare OP. Sorry, I have no advice that you can't just as easily google yourself, just wanted to send empathetic solidarity.

Depends on the surface. It comes off skin after a few showers. You can always try careful scraping with a Stanley knife.

Moonflower6 · 31/10/2024 00:38

Erm just an idea but how about pink stuff miracle paste? Gets rust off as well as lots of other uses/things?

Or a magic eraser? Maybe rub lemon it (no idea if it will work but the fricking thing is used for lots of things.)

Imatorturedpoet · 31/10/2024 00:38

It's a laminate worktop, speckled black. It's a rented accommodation.

I've scraped as much as I can off with a Stanley knife blade, I can't feel it anymore, but the work surface looks different, sort of splodgy.

What do you mean splodge?

Moonflower6 · 31/10/2024 00:40

Honestly give the pink paste a go

Moonflower6 · 31/10/2024 00:40

Then when you've used it just use glass cleaner or white vinegar to make the surface shiny again

You can buy superglue remover - have a look online

PaperTyger · 31/10/2024 07:15

Would a glue gun have been more effective

Damnloginpopup · 31/10/2024 07:21

It might polish out if you've got some brasso or t-cut or something. I'd start using a bic razor to try and keep it level.

FinishTheBook · 31/10/2024 07:33

I did this years ago. It is the reason why our large coffee machine will always stay in the same place. 😂

Yogibearspicnic · 31/10/2024 08:33

If you have some nail polish remover with acetone in it then try that. Otherwise, as said then you can buy superglue remover stuff. Test a bit on another area of worktop first perhaps.

Yepyepyepducky · 31/10/2024 08:53

Acetone etc will probably ruin the laminated as it's a thin layer of plastic (usually) I think you might make things worse.
You could try very very carefully to sand it , but whatever you do you're going to be left with a mark /something obvious , so it might be a case of which is going to show less.
