I managed to get hair dye on my carpet, used vanish stain removal spray, the laundry one. Removed it all, I swear it was like magic.

@Lavenderosa thank you! I wonder if it will work on hard floor. I'll have to give it a go. So cross with myself

Is it a lino floor?
White vinegar can work well on those kind of stains. You need to leave it on for a a while to try and break down the stain and then try and scrub it out.
There's also something you can buy called bar keepers friend. I use it for stains on my plastic/cream sink and it gets out stains that even bleach doesn't work on.

kitkat2024 · 30/10/2024 23:04

@selly90 yes it's Lino. I have just panic bought a magic eraser thing from Amazon - do you think that would work? Will also try white vinegar, have never heard of bar keepers friend but will look it up now - thank you!

I've used The Pink Stuff successfully on vinyl flooring. The magic eraser is also worth a try. Have just dyed my hair tonight and have managed not to stain the floor for a change, lol!

kitkat2024 · 30/10/2024 23:10

@Gummibärchen well done you! I am never dyeing my hair myself again lol. Will get some pink stuff tomorrow!

Just wanted to add that it you were to try vinegar, please remove all traces of bleach first as the two react to create chlorine gas.

kitkat2024 · 30/10/2024 23:18

@Gummibärchen oh dear Lord thank you! This just gets more and more stressful. Appreciate the heads up!

Stay calm, @kitkat2024 - this is entirely salvageable! I know, because it's a regular occurrence in my house. And I really should give up the home hair dyeing 😂

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/10/2024 23:26

Does no one put a plastic sheet down? I’m a clumsy dyer, and I have had a plastic table cloth for many years which guards the floor. I can trace my various incarnations hair wise by looking at it, it’s quite sentimental.

kitkat2024 · 30/10/2024 23:27

@Gummibärchen thank god for mumsnet, thank you so much for your advice!

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen haha if only I'd had the foresight - I was only doing my roots so didn't expect to make a mess. Never again!

Acetone worked great for me

Yepyepyepducky · 30/10/2024 23:36

The good stuff ( the lid can be a bugger to open!) it's great but be very gentle.
I wouldn't use the magic sponge unless if tried everything else first.
Be carefully not to make it worse by scrubbing and spoiling the finish of the floor

KingOfPeace · 30/10/2024 23:57

I got brown hair dye on the loo seat, looked awful and could not get it out until I tried barkeepers friend and it was gone in seconds.

I bought both the dry powder and the liquid one, sorry can't remember which one did the trick.

Acetone/nail polish remover always worked for me
