And the fun starts ..... not. Hoping parents keep DCs in this year as our town had rocks thrown at moving cars, damage to property etc.

This is a thing in our area too, thankfully not around the roads where I live. So many horrible kids using as an excuse to cause trouble.

What’s mischief night?

The night before Halloween, used to be low level pranks by local teens - swapping neighbours plant pots, toilet paper in hedges, knock and run type of things. Over the past few years, it's escalated to eggs, flour, firecrackers, rocks at moving cars, settings bins on fire, smashing windows etc.

Oh we used to do that up North when I was a child. I remember getting clowted for putting taters up exhaust pipes. People can barely afford taters this year, none t waste

Wellfuckmesideways · 30/10/2024 17:59

Police have announced dispersal zones. Not sure if this will have any impact.

Mischief night was on November 4th when I was a child. Well, in the area where I lived it was, I don't know about anywhere else!

chocolateybuttons · 30/10/2024 18:03

Oof where about is this OP?

Never heard of that before, sounds horrendous. We are decorated for Halloween tomorrow as are having our annual party 🎃🎃🎃

YorkieTheRabbit · 30/10/2024 18:07

Mischief night was the 4th November when I was a child.

Wellfuckmesideways · 30/10/2024 18:07

We are in NW, think it's happens across the country but on different nights.

We had a lot of trouble locally last year.

4th November. We loved it as kids (in a small village) but never did anything awful or damaging. Where I live now they won’t sell eggs to children for a week beforehand!

Jaffapaffa · 30/10/2024 18:10

4th November for me as well.

The police used to come to the primary school to tell us not to do it, and that it wasn't a recognised national event, like Bonfire Night.

We didn't believe him - small rural market town, and little awareness of a wider world!

Doggymummar · 30/10/2024 18:11

I thought it was 4nivember too was saying to OH. He's a southener and never heard of it.

dizzydizzydizzy · 30/10/2024 18:15

Never heard of it (London). Thanks for the wilkipedia link.

Kangarude · 30/10/2024 18:15

It was always 4th November. It stems from Guy Fawkes plot to blow up parliament (mischief) and the plotters hid below the night before the 5th.

ETA - where I grew up

wizzler · 30/10/2024 18:32

4th November when I was growing up in Yorkshire

AuntieMarys · 30/10/2024 18:33

4th November here

Paisleydad · 30/10/2024 19:18

4th November in my part of Yorkshire.

Knock and run. Garden hopping.

That was 50-odd years ago. I suspect it would easily get out of hand now.

Wellfuckmesideways · 30/10/2024 19:34

All quiet so far or at least local FB group is quiet!
