Short trip with 8 year old

Hi all,

I’m planning a trip with DD in May for a special occasion- we’re living in Ireland so need direct flights from there to somewhere not too far away (UK or rest of Europe potentially) for a two night stay with at least one big ticket attraction ideally.

For a similar trip I took her sister to the Harry Potter studios and we stayed in central London for the two nights so got in a little tour of the city too.

I’d like to do something similar but not the same with DD2. We’ve done London with them both since then and DD2 LOVED the Natural History museum so maybe somewhere with an amazing museum??

Any inspiration much appreciated.

How old is she. I took my eldest to Rome aged 9. Absolutely loved it. Theres so much to see in such a small space it’s almost disneyfied

I am tempted to go back to London @ThisPlumHelper - what other museums are good there??

@Phonicshaskilledmeoff Rome isn’t a place I’d have thought of but it is such a beautiful city. She’s 8 so it would appeal I’m sure.

My first thought was Rome too. I took DCs there for 2 days when they were 8 and 5, and they still remember it. They loved the food (pizza, pasta, ice cream - what’s not to like there?) and we were able to find a cheap place just of Piazza Navone to stay, so we were central and walked everywhere. They loved the Colosseum and the Forum, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. We played at putting our hands in the Boca Veritas, wandered round watching street performers in the Piazza Navone on the evening, and saw a bank holiday military parade we’d not counted on which had the Italian cavalry band riding down the street and fighter jets flying overhead, so that was our 2 days filled. The Romans loved the kids, and everyone was helpful. We took a kids’ ‘I Spy Rome’ book, and DS was into the Ninja Turtles at the time so loved all the references to Leonardo and Michelangelo, although we established that Donatello was a poor 2nd to Botticelli as far as renaissance artists go, but Donnie sounds cooler as a turtle name than Botti, much amusement was had with this!

Maybe Venice? All walkable or boat-able

I’d go back to London. The British Museum is fantastic. They have a bit of everything. The Science museum is good too. They’ve got some interactive exhibits.
