Just that really - how did you celebrate your 40th?
Mine is next May and want to do something special. Welcome ideas... no budget really but something special

House party, I was heavily pregnant and the only one sober!

I didn’t really or at least There was nothing planned. On the day I was sitting on a train for 6 hours on my way back from a something that was nothing to do with my birthday!

although as it turned I went out for a meal with a couple of friends not for my birthday specifically but when I walked in there was happy birthday string lights on the table and they had got a cake that the waiter brought to the table.

a week or so after my birthday I went out to an amazing tiny independent Japanese restaurant with someone who chose there because he thought I’d love it and it had been my birthday.

its the most I have done for any “big” birthday. Never really had the opportunity or anyone who would want to organise a celebration for me.

I raised £1000 for a charity over my 40th birthday year and went to Barcelona with my then DH and my kids.

I took the day off work and went shopping by myself and had sushi.

I am in amateur dramatics and had a show to perform in on my actual birthday so I bought a load of pizzas and we all had an aftershow party which was fab.

DH and I then went on a holiday to Budapest, leaving DD with family.

It was a lovely birthday!

Paid for a group of us to do a vineyard tour and stay in a fancy country house where we could drink wine into the small hours. Worth every penny and the only party I've ever thrown for myself!

We had a family holiday to the Caribbean (3,weeks in the Dominican Republic) where we did snorkel ing, dh and I did diving and we had Spanish language lessons.? Best holiday ever!

My husband booked 4 weekends away over the month to my favourite places to stay. One of the weekends was manchester to see Hamilton another was the lakes.
Perfect way to celebrate my 40th

My DH took me out to dinner with our closest friends. All afternoon I had felt exhausted but scrubbed up for dinner.

At the restaurant I began to feel queasy. After the starter I popped outside for a little air and threw up in the gutter. I put on a brave face for the main, picking and moving food round the plate. Then did the same again, on my knees over the drain.

I cried all the way home in the cab.

He also bought me a very nice painting by a local artist which hangs outside the upstairs bog, so I see it every day :).
