Haven’t got Wifi

I need WiFi I only have data on my phone I was going to choose Plusnet as it’s the best in my town for the price but before I get to checkout it’s talking about how they’ll need to drill holes in the outside and inside wall to connect the full fibre boxes and cables? I live in a council house and don’t want to get into trouble but don’t know who I should be asking or if I even need permission

Can you phone the housing dept at your local council? Or Google it with your council name to see if there’s a FAQ section?

I got a plug in wifi from three. Vodafone also do them- probably others too. It's brilliant and really good value. No drilling either! Just plug in and you're connected! We only have telly and mobile phones so don't know if it makes a difference if you need more, like your heating etc but worth checking

I’ve decided not to go for it too much faff with boxes it’s probably so it’s harder to get out of it.
I still need WiFi but I feel intimidated by calling these places as I always feel pressured into being sold something I can’t afford I have ADHD

It will be fine, you can drill holes in the wall for things like that. It will be a small hole with a box on top just like a landline, every other house will have one too

If you couldn't drill holes in the wall no one in a council house would have a landline, broadband, key safes, external lights and cameras, wall affixed letter boxes and obviously they do.

The boxes are for the fibre optics, you'll sign up for whatever package is most appropriate, there will probably be an introductory offer for 6 months or so and then a price for the next 12 months so you will know in advance if you can afford it. There maybe some index related increases in the year but that is only a couple of pounds normally.

At the end of the contract term (often 18 months) you will be able to choose a new offer with your current provider or find a new one.

Can you get a dongle?

BitzNBobz · 29/10/2024 17:37

EE also do the plug and go sSIM card internet boxes. I had one for three years in deepest rural Devon and it worked brilliantly.

No other info I’m afraid as my ex boss bought it and paid the internet bill. Live in job.
