Where do you get your Christmas deccies from (affordable edition!)

Hello!

We had a big old leak in the attic earlier this year so most of the Christmas decorations, amassed over the years were destroyed. Luckily, a bag of ‘special’ decorations (personalised and gifted) did survive so I’m looking for the best place to buy volume and lights (indoor and outdoor). Feels pretty daunting.

Im on a budget (who isn’t?), is there anywhere that is particularly better than others for decorations and lights? I’m thinking supermarkets, b&m, Home bargs etc.

We tend to stick to red and white and open to change!

Many thanks!

ps not planning to get them up on 1 November, just forward planning!

B&M

IKEA is good for Christmas stuff.

Initially we got ours from The Range but over the years we have been slowly replacing them by picking up one decoration from every holiday we go on.

Charity shops. Around here most of them have baskets of decorations priced at 5 or 10 for £1.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. My Mum was only saying yesterday she bought some pretty swan decorations from Poundland of all places a few years ago. Other suggestions: Matalan, B&M, The Range, Home Bargains. Some shopping centres have Christmas shops (ours has a pricey one and a cheap one).

Tesco , the big Tesco Extra

Homebase or B&Q for volume baubles. Like you I use two colours. I have bought a special decoration each year too. I'm glad your special ones are ok, they'd have been upsetting to have lost.

I admire all the over-priced decorations in our naice garden centre and then go get virtually the same things in The Range for a fraction of the price.

If you have Facebook look on marketplace. I sold as a job lot when I changed colours and often see others selling on there.

I love places like B&M, the range, Poundland, primark for decorations. Such good value.

thank you so much! Some great suggestions that wouldn’t have crossed my mind!

I usually pick up tree decorations on holiday/travelling. Love that my tree is covered in memories.

TeabySea · 28/10/2024 09:45

The Range usually have some good stuff, but Supermarkets are good for boxes of red/white type stuff.
I tend to eye up the expensive stuff in a garden centre round my way (they have a specialist Christmas department), and then buy it all in the sale for the next year.

All over. Etsy and eBay sometimes have good ones. I like vintage ones. John Lewis always has a good selection. I also went to Liberty's a week before Xmas and all the decs were half price - I wouldn't ever pay full price but got some beauties. I once found great ones at B&Q but I think it was a blip because never again!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 28/10/2024 11:37

Vinted can be good when someone has changed themes

Dunelm Mills do some nice, reasonably priced, Christmas decorations. But don't sit on it until December, Christmas seems to finish in November there, spare the dregs

I noticed on Saturday that TK Maxx had some really lovely deccos this year. Managed to resist as already have waaay too many.
