Is there anything you can do for teenage acne other than roaccutane?!

Dd has really bad skin. It flares, and at the moment is looking really spotty and sore. She says she isn't bothered, there's nothing she can do and she definitely doesn't want a) the pill (tried this a couple of years ago for 3/4 months and it made her feel miserable) or roaccitane (dc1 took this as the side effects were punishing although it did work in the spots). So she uses a le Roche posey face wash and I think that's it. She's 18. Just to make life more complicated, she has fair, sensitive skin which gets very dry and sore with benzoyl peroxide.

Is there anything else that can be done? As I say, she says she isn't bothered, and I love the fact she's not at all vain, but at the same time I've been noticing her using make up to cover them, so clearly she is a bit bothered.

Any advice welcome. I did think about a dermatologist but as she's adamant that she doesn't want roaccutane I'm not sure what they could do.

As a teen I had terrible acne which I coped with until my early 30's then had roaccutane. It was life changing & nowhere near the awful experience others sometimes have. I was really careful, used dermalogica products, worked full time as a lawyer in a big commercial law firm - nobody would've known

Go see a dermatologist

Same. Struggled with the most painful bumps for years. They went away at 28 when I was pregnant and that made me want to push for roaccutaine. Never looked back. I was on it for 6 months and now im 41 and cleared it for good

I'm probably out of date as I'm in my 50s now but obsessed with my skin for years. I found in my teens I used things that dried my skin far too much so I then produced more oil to compensate.
I've never looked back since using cleansers like Liz Earle s Cleanse and Polish.
I took antibiotics for my skin but never cleared my face up. But I definitely felt I was trs
Eating it too harshly.
Also when you're young you think as your skin is oily you should skip moisturiser but you just need to find what works for you.
I've found Liz Earle ok.
My skin has suited clarins for a long time.
I also like the Pixi range of skin care products and make up.
My DD who is in her 20s and oily and sweaty suits Clinique. Other DD suits Elemis but that's always been too oily for me.

Specialist told me benzoyl peroxide after 20.years of terrible skin , it was £5 in the chemist.
The doctor also gave me a lotion / cream containing same ingredients, magic .
Stains clothing and bedding though and towels but I don't care

It’s not for everyone but the pill solved mine. In 40s now and struggling again with it, just gone back on the pill and it’s cleared it again. My brother had roaccutune. Brutal stuff but it did work.

Taking Dianette genuinely, changed my life. Being able to look at myself in the mirror and run my hand over my blemish free face was out of this world for me.

A godsend, i say!

Yes!!! Take her to a proper dermatologist!!!! There’s lots of other treatments they can use and antibiotics are often used but it’s often hormone related and hormone imbalance from endometriosis, adenymyosis etc are a problem with acne BUT there are also many other things that cause it including other medical conditions and food allergies etc that a decent dermatologist will sort out

I have had roaccutane and the side effects for me weren't too bad. However my acne came back after a couple of years (found out mid 20's due to pcos - my only symptom). I always kept skin very clean etc but now have learnt a lot more about the acid mantle of the skin so i make sure all products i use do not destroy that. I also for a time took estrobloc supplements along with a good liver supplement. This also worked wonders for me and my skin completely cleared up. Its great for hormonal acne. Ive started having small flare ups again - thanks peri-meno! Ive looked for estrobloc but it seems to be discontinued. I need to look for an alternative.

Son had Roaccutane but had bad side effects on it. They suggesting opening up the pores and cleaning them. Was monitored well on Roacc just did not suit him at all.

Accutane or roaccutane is very strong, tretinoin is much better
