Spending too much on children’s clothing

I spend a ridiculous amount.

My first baby was a boy. I didn’t like the clothes available in Tesco and Asda so looked at the higher end brands to get the sort of things I liked. During lockdown when he was a newborn buying him nice clothes felt like something to look forward to.

Second baby was a girl. I loved the girl stuff available, the floral and ditsy prints and the colours and bought a crazy amount. I know it isn’t necessary and is a waste of money. I know I should buy second hand but just can’t bring myself to unless it’s someone I already know passing stuff on.

I am partly wondering if anyone else is the same and also admitting how daft it is on here to cull my habits somewhat!

I have the exact taste as you. Have a toddler DS and so much of the stuff in supermarkets etc is just absolute crap. Full of dinosaurs, diggers or shit slogans. I bought a reasonable amount of stuff for him when he was smaller but I've been just using vinted predominantly for ages. Have just received a bundle of 6 pairs of Zara jeans/trousers for £6. It is beyond pointless to buy anything new unless it's a particular thing you really love.

I also hate "designer" stuff or anything with a brand name on so it's tricky to find a middle ground

It’s an individual choice

I get half the stuff in the year round next sales and the rest on vinted

I get t-shirts, vests etc in the sales. Everything else is hand-me-downs from his cousin & from friends. I buy coats & shoes.

I had quite a big age gap as dd was born when ds was 2 weeks off being 8. I went crazy! We received so much quality stuff anyway from both sets of parents from M and S, Next and John Lewis and I didn’t spend too money until she turned one and I bought her Oilily which is a Dutch brand that I wore as a chid too and has a brilliant re-sale value. She suited anything and everything and I loved dressing her.

now she is 13 she hates clothes and only wears them when she has 2 ( prefers Oodies ) and she’s autistic and has a unique sense of style. I don’t regret spending so much at all and she always looked amazing.

i have to say that I did also buy some bits and bobs from Asda and some of her nicest stuff was from there. I wasn’t a fan of a Tesco kids clothes.
