Fourth Birthday

DD turns 4 in a week.

I am at a complete loss as to what to buy her. She doesn’t need anything and I don’t want to buy rubbish for the sake of it. But I also don’t want her to have nothing to open. At this rate she’ll be getting a pair of slippers I picked up in Sainsbury’s the other day and nothing else. I’ve asked my parents to buy her some Lego and ILs have bought her some nice clothes.

We don’t have lots of space for toys (and I can’t think of anything she’d play with for more than 5 minutes), and have plenty anyway. She has a bike, a scooter, a play kitchen etc. We have loads of books and go to the library every week so don’t really want to buy more. We have more craft stuff than you can shake a stick at!

We’re having a day out to a farm with some friends for her ‘party’.

What’s left?!

4 year olds are easy- they love everything. Bath bombs have always gone down well with mine as extras. There are lots of potion type kits that go down well for the bath as well.

What about dolls? Dolls have been the thing both of my girls have spent hours and hours playing with. One of my daughter’s loved a hot wheels car launcher- she’d sit and play with that for ages at 4/5. Other things that have kept them busy at that age are playdoh and magnetic scene sets. Other thing that has had the most play out of nearly everything is an icecream set. Eldest still plays with it at 8.

Sadly Lego is the one thing that neither have mine have ever really taken to despite having lots of sets.

Sounds like she will have plenty to open. At least one present each from you and both sets of GPS then presents from the party. I wouldn't worry. But if you really need there to be a little pile of presents consumables are always helpful. Things like craft stuff, nice bubble bath/bath bombs etc or chocolate etc that way it doesn't sty cluttering up your house forever.

How about a Yoto Mini? I got one for my DD’s 4th birthday recently and she’s enjoying it. You can set different story and music cards depending on what she likes.

DD1 turned 4 last Christmas and got lots of crafty things - glittery paper, stickers, tissue paper, paint sticks as well as craft sets like jewellery making and rock painting.

She also got:
Tonies box - falls asleep listening to it every night
Membership to the local zoo
Theatre tickets to see a Julia Donaldson show (could do a homemade voucher if there's nothing specific on she would like to see)
Hair bands, clips and bobbles - bright colours or sparkly always go down well
Princess toiletries - Disney princess lip balms, bubble bath, bath bombs, etc are a big hit

Dolls, cars or playmobil. You don't need big things that take up too much space but imaginative play is so important to development

Plus lip balms, kids always love a lipbalm!

Dressing up clothes /mor crafting stuff ? Mine always love kinetic sand and play dough . They start sort of getting board games at that age . Orchard ones are good .
