My just turned 11 year old stepson is here, as he is every weekend, he's a great lad but I wonder if he has a big appetite or am I naive to what an 11 year old eats? Today hasn't been the healthiest of days, I will admit.

Breakfast: Decent size bowl of cereal and an apple.

Lunch: Full English breakfast, 2 Sausages, 2 bacon, 1 slice of toast, 1 scrambled egg, 1 hash brown and 1/3 tin of beans.

Snack: Large ice cream cone (he arrived back with on way back from being at a friends).

Dinner: Half a standard size oven pizza with a good handful of chips.

Snack: Asked for microwave popcorn to eat with a film, ate half a bag (a heaped soup bowl). Then went to the kitchen and helped himself to 2 (single size but smallish) brownies.

Again, I know this is not a healthy day but he still claims he's hungry a lot after having what I think is a good amount of food for a 10 year old even on days that include a lot more protein and fruit/vegetables. He's overweight but not hugely, I thought it was puppy fat that would even out during a growth spurt. He's a great kid I would just like to see a comparison of what your children of a similar age eat. Thanks!

B pan au choc, croissant, bowl of mango and some apple juice
L- foot long meatball marinara glass of water
D- roast chicken, chips, broccoli and gravy with some baguette
A handful of skittles and an apple

Will probably have another snack before bed.

He has a pretty decent appetite but I would say what you've said is pretty normal.

That sounds fine. They eat SO MUCH FOOD!! Seriously. Today my 7 year old has had:

breakfast: 2 slices of toast with butter and jam, an apple and a banana.

morning snack: 2/3 of a party size container of mini cheddars

lunch: 1 and a half large jacket potatoes with bean chilli and cheese, plus a massive coleslaw salad, a sausage roll

afternoon snack: ham sandwich, a fairy cake, some carrot sticks

emergency snack: cheese and crackers

dinner: a cheese and ham omelette with new potatoes and broccoli and some melon.

He‘s a bit underweight, does a lot of exercise and is permanently starving!

Wait until he's 15...I don't know where it all goes! The teen boy second stomach is a biological marvel.

I don't think it sounds excessive, Ceres isn't filling not is an apple.

justasmalltownmum · 26/10/2024 20:47

Mine would eat that lunch for breakfast.

My 9 year old just eats and eats and eats and eats. He has eaten too much to list today and is now topping it off with a banana and a pancake with peanut butter before getting a good night's sleep so he can eat the rest of all the food tomorrow.

CowboyJoanna · 26/10/2024 21:39

Boys that age do have a huge appetite so dont stress too much about it. DS would probably snack like a pig if I let him but hes not allowed to get food outside of mealtimes unless he asks permission so thats how i keep his weight under check

My 13 year old son has eaten
Crackers with cheddar cheese
Pear x 2
Apple x 2
Cashew nuts
Olives
Half garlic baguette
Bag salted popcorn
Cheese
Cashew nuts
Buttered Toast x 2
About 8 corn cakes
Dried mango

He has severe autism though and is very selective in what he eats but seems to be growing ok. He is very active and is never still.

Sounds a very balanced healthy diet though! Keep it up! Smile

Somebody used the words ‘growing’ and I suddenly thought of the growth spurts my sons had at about that age, so could be that but also it’s because it was all junk, you know the way you develop a gaping hole to take in junk and it doesn’t fill you? I’d guess it was a fun day out for him as opposed to anything else but yes they eat a lottt!!!!

TadpolesInPool · 26/10/2024 21:49

My 10 year old eats more than me. I try to limit the highly processed food but he does eat a LOT of homemade cakes and biscuits.

He's incredibly active and muscly and has ADHD so is always on the move. He hasnt had a growth spurt since July except for his feet which are now officially bigger than mine (he's well chuffed).

For him and his bottomless stomach older brother I make sure they drink enough water and that their diet is balanced and varied. After that, I don't police the amount they eat but I do "close the kitchen" at 7.30pm (unless they have sports clubs that evening) to ensure their stomachs have a decent break overnight (breakfast is at 6am on school days)

Today my 9 year old has eaten

2 weetabix, oat milk, bagel with spread, apple

1 roll, 2 bacon, 2 potato scones
Krispy Creme Donut

Burger in a bun, 40g doritos, melted cheese, guacamole, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes

Pomme bears, jelly pot

Not a very balanced day today, but sometimes that happens. He played 50 mins of football this morning with his team then played kids golf (oversized balls and clubs apparently) and a game of rounders in the afternoon.

He could have definitely eaten more today, he's about 135cm and slim, you can see his ribs/stomach muscles.
