Women's safety boots: help please!

Definitely not style and beauty but I need some boot recommendations! It's for working literally in a field in November, so they need to be mud and ideally water resistant and at least ankle height, with laces rather than pull-ons. Toes protection, but sole plates are overkill. I'll be walking a lot for several days in a row so they really need to be women's fit otherwise my feet will be killing me (plus I'm pregnant so already in a foul mood and don't want to be tempted to kick the contractors in my new boots!)

All the boots I've found so far claiming to be women's are either not proper safety boots or are just men's boots that go down to lower sizes. Please help!

These are women’s.

There's these, too:

These don't advertise for women, but I have a really good pair, a third of the way up with the calf, Kevlar toecaps. The zip's really great for after a hard day.

Alternatively, I got my daughter a pair from Screwfix, (size 5 - she has wide feet) but they do women's boots, too:

I just saw some on the birkenstock website, qs700 I think.

You may want to try them on if you are pregnant - I had to size up a size with my site boots when I was pregnant
No current recommendations as I now have the ugliest pair of site boots in the world but they were custom made as I cannot bend my toes due to arthritis and need orthotics so literally fit like a glove.

SinnerBoy · 26/10/2024 18:34

Oh, half price sale?

StamppotAndGravy · 26/10/2024 18:43

Thanks everyone! There's no where local to try on unfortunately, and not many brands are available where I am. In the end I've bought some Elten boots because they're goretex lined and definitely womens (only available up to 42), but I'm open to having to go through several pairs before getting the right ones

Oh dear! Well, good luck and make sure to wear each pair to walk round the house (not outdoors) to know that they're a comfortable fit.

Bjorkdidit · 27/10/2024 04:22

You need to try them on with the socks you'll be wearing as by then you might want warm socks which will affect sizing.

Plus different brands fit differently so what might be good for me won't be good for you. I work somewhere where we have a lot of women in safety boots and there's a few different styles that have been found to work.

Can you order a few pairs from somewhere like Arco to try? I have some basic Arco brand ones and they're actually reasonably comfortable but I don't know if they're waterproof as I use them for factory work.

StamppotAndGravy · 27/10/2024 07:32

Most of the women's boots available here are designed for farm labour or factory work. The farm ones are waterproof but pull-on, which doesn't seem sensible for walking across a lot of fields, and factory ones aren't waterproof. The market seems much better in the UK, although I know my sister has a nightmare getting hi-vis in a curvy size 18. Most of my colleagues wear police boots but they're a bit overkill!

I don't do much fieldwork if I can help it, and then most of what I do is pre-planning so walking boots are fine. I haven't worked out how I'm going to deal with the needing to pee every hour yet, I might spend a lot of time squatting behind the contractor's truck and hope for some trees :D

I'll try these ones first. They look comfortable, but so does everything online ;)

DMs?? Mine are soft leather and very comfortable

VanilleFraise · 27/10/2024 13:07

I got mine from toolstation and was very happy with them and they have quite a large selection.

Panda1884 · 27/10/2024 13:21

My current ones are the Elten Francesco (I need the steel midsole) and they are really comfy.

StamppotAndGravy · 29/10/2024 19:09

The Elten boots are a success! They're a bit soft round the ankles so not quite as much support as I'd like, but I'm almost certain they won't give blisters. They probably won't survive very long, they're built like cheap walking boots, but I don't intend to walk miles in them so they should last long enough.

SinnerBoy · 29/10/2024 19:13

Well, good for you! I hope they're a success.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 29/10/2024 19:41

DMs no longer make safety boots.
It is still possible to get some (at vastly inflated prices) and they are not soft and buttery. They are as tough as old boots and may win the battle of whether the boots wear in or your feet wear out.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 29/10/2024 19:52

Don't discount pull on boots.
Last time I needed safety boots the only ones available on the day were pull on, chelsea boot style. I had a slight 'well that's not good enough' moment in the shop.
They're the best safety boots I've ever had. They aren't an arse to put on or off, they have no laces to fill with mud. I had to apologise to DH about my little shop moment.

Hope the boots you found work well for you.
