What would you cook tonight to feed 8 people?

Hosting a gathering for 8 and I’m bored of cooking chilli which is my usual go-to. What would you do that’s (relatively) easy and tasty for a group? I’m good at cooking and I enjoy it, I’m just lacking inspiration!

Macaroni cheese

If you have a really big roasting pan this is failsafe https://www.recipetineats.com/one-pan-baked-butter-chicken/

I pair with something green, like broccoli, and rice/cauliflower rice. It’s seriously good. In face this blogger has quite the following in Australia. She’s brilliant.

I think this is the winner!! Thank you, just the kind of thing I’m looking for!

Thanks so much for your help everyone - you’ve given me loads of ideas I’m going to try in the next few months!

Assuming no veggies, a big piece of gammon (or two smaller) baked in the oven with a honey and mustard glaze for the last 20 minutes, after stripping the skin off.
Plus jacket potatoes and homemade coleslaw or salad.

That’s what I did for a big family lunch recently, anyway. Had to go to Waitrose for the gammon - big enough pieces and strictly U.K. bred.

If everyone eats pork i would highly recommend this pork and olive stew. www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/meat-and-poultry/pork-with-paprika-and-olives/
It is really tasty, easy to make and has been a real crowd pleaser when I've had a few people to feed. It goes well served with some nice crusty bread.

blooming heck you’re a last minute kind of person!

Blooming heck you're a judgemental, rude and unhelpful person!

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/10/2024 10:49

Curry. Roast. Spag Bol, meatballs. Massive lump of roast beast and crusty bread, cheese, nibbles.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/10/2024 10:49

And yes, absolutely stacks of time! It's only a meal.

confusedlots · 26/10/2024 10:54

I'd do a chicken or beef stroganoff in the slow cooker so you'll not have much to do later on

StoatofDisarray · 26/10/2024 10:57

You have time to slow roast a shoulder of lamb or braise some beef to serve with mash and veg.

Tygertiger · 26/10/2024 08:23

This looks just the thing - thank you!!

Definitely go for this curry 🍛!
Enjoy your evening OP.
Hectic life here too , I’m always last minute due to that and it all turns out ok in the end .
Family time is precious the food is an addition.

Thank you @reallyfm I’m going to use this too

CurlewKate · 26/10/2024 11:07

Big chickpea curry. Quick pickled chillis for the people who want it hotter. Raita. Lots of hot nan bread.

Big plate of chocolates, grapes and strawberries. And, if you like, some cheese and oatcakes.

SeaBaseAlpha · 26/10/2024 11:14

Beef stew or Delia’s Basque chicken

CharlotteStreetW1 · 26/10/2024 11:24

I was going to say chilli 😄

So I'll say Hairy Bikers Goulash (or as it's October ghoulash - I'll get my coat).

Cod fillets wrapped in Parma ham
herby tomato sauce
roasted baby potatoes
mangetout and broccoli
a meringue roulade with frozen raspberries

cod is baked in the same oven as the potatoes, takes barely any preparation. Tom sauce made with onion, garlic, tinned tomatoes and whatever herbs you have on hand. Meringue roulade is my emergency pudding as I always have fruit in the freezer and it's so easy.
all looks impressive with very little work. You could start prepping at 6pm and have dinner on the table for 7.30

Zippedydodah · 26/10/2024 11:31

It’s cooking for 8 tonight and making double the amount of this:

Serving it with garlic bread 😋

Venison or beef stew with some fresh bread, and pear and chocolate sponge for dessert.

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/squidgy-chocolate-pear-pudding

I've made these on Boxing Day before but they are good anytime in autumn/winter.

Once you've done the prep they are chuck in the oven dishes, so great for entertaining.

Succulent braised venison

Venison stew

Venison benefits from long, slow cooking, and this Scottish dish develops a beautifully earthy sweetness – try it as an alternative to turkey, or for Hogmanay

Roast a large chicken
Roast veg with fajita mix
Salad
Sour cream
guacamole
grated cheese
spicy sauce
wraps
Maybe with Mexican rice or pots cut into cubes and roasted with salt, rosemary and olive oil

blooming heck you’re a last minute kind of person!

There's tons of time before this evening.

Anewbrew · 26/10/2024 11:35

I'd order pizza Grin

Deadringer · 26/10/2024 11:38

Beef stroganoff or tika Masala, easy, tasty, just needs the odd stir once it's simmering, quick and easy to serve.

Peclet · 26/10/2024 11:42

Chicken kebabs with pita bread, Greek salad; hummus and tzatziki

kitsuneghost · 26/10/2024 11:43

Sicilian sausage stew with those pesto and mozzarella flatbreads from Tesco (other flat breads available according to taste)

dontforgetme · 26/10/2024 11:43

My go to would be chilli too op! Either that or curry!

RabbitsRock · 26/10/2024 11:48
