Joint birthday parties

Just wondering what other people’s views are on joint birthday parties? I always feel annoyed and try to avoid them now. It just doesn’t seem fair that the parents half their costs by planning together and expect the parents of the children attending to double their costs. A lot of parents who do joint parties expect people attending to buy two gifts (one for each child). What they should do (in my opinion) is create a guest list and let the parents know that they only have to get a gift for the one child who invited them. The vast majority don’t do this though!

Just had a joint party for dd (with 2 other girls from her class). Its £450 for the party in total, so still top of our budget (who would pay that total for 1!!!). But means we can invite all the girls in the class. I hope people don't think we're grabby (not put anything re presents on the invite).

If its a joint party for 3, I usually do a £5 gift voucher each plus small thing to open eg large packet of sweets, so its not too much extra. Dd was more than happy with that sort of gift.

How old are the kids? You can get 2 books for £7 in Tesco.

Doesn't break the bank, you don't have to pay a fortune in gifts. I never do.

I've just booked a joint softplay party for mine who will be 3 and 6. Birthdays are 7 days apart. Dp didn't realise the joint parties issue was a thing, but I'm just going to write the one name on the invite - ds school friends will have an invite to his birthday, dd nursery friends will have an invite to hers.

We do have a 2 friends and their 2 kids each coming who are friends with both of mine, I'll likely send a message and designate them a child each so they don't feel the need to double up on gifts? We're close enough I think that that wouldn't be rude, our friendships pre date the kids.
