Opinion - Halloween

Canvassing for opinion.
We have around 350 trick and treaters come down our road on Halloween as quite a few of the houses on the road do nice displays. We have a animatronics ghost display that you can stay and watch for a couple of minutes, take a couple of photos standing next too etc.
As our treat, I’m thinking of doing a candy floss or popcorn machine instead of chocolate bars. It’s cheaper, less plastic and I thought would be fun.
Do you think that is a terrible idea?

350!
Wouldn't you run out of treats?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 25/10/2024 22:05

I think it's a lovely idea

Candy floss sounds amazing.

Popcorn isn't recommended for under 5s (due to choking risk) and ime quite a few under 5s trick or treat (often with older siblings etc). As a parent to under 5 to trick or treat-ers I would be nervous about them eating popcorn in the dark and on the go. Hope that helps!

If you can afford it and want to then go for it although will it really be cheaper?

You have to buy or hire the machine then buy the sugar/colourings/sticks or kernels/sugar/bags.

Also if the bags or popcorn/candy floss aren't sealed could get messy for the kids as they would have to eat there and then or it would make a mess of their bags etc

Yes, I wondered that too about the popcorn

Hi @IcySnake

I have done candy floss. If your in the Uk the kids can’t believe it and loved it.

The only issue is if outside the wind rain can be an issue. Did it inside one year and house smelt like the fair for a few days 😂

Have also done hotdogs and chip muffins, funnel cakes and chocolate fountain to mix it up .

To be fair they all went down really well as we are in the Uk and no one ever expects anything apart from sweets near us.

I think if you have never done it before then candy floss is a good start see how that goes and then maybe do something different next year. I would only do one as choice is a nightmare lol.

I found buying a good entry level machine was the same as hiring and we use it a birthdays and school events.

Doingthework · 25/10/2024 22:38

Sorry by nightmare I meant the children having a choice they can’t then decide what they want

ByMerryKoala · 25/10/2024 22:42

That sounds amazing!

@IcySnake

Are you going for it?
Best of luck whatever you decide 👍
