My daughter and I are up for the university open day tomorrow. We have Sunday and a few hours on Monday to sightsee.

We like galleries/museums and she loves theatre. (No money for a show, though!)

Maybe the castle? Portrait gallery? Any hidden gems or tips?

She also loves shopping.

Thanks for any tips.

Agree the Museum of Scotland is great!

There’s the new St James Centre if you fancy some shopping, it has good options for eating too.

Dishoom does a very good breakfast/brunch.

St James Quarter or we call it the Jobby Quarter in our house as it's shaped like a massive one.

My favourite place to go when on a day out is strolling through Princes Street Gardens and a walk in the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street. Enjoy whatever you end up doing OP 😊

Chaopraya - fab Thai food. And if you’re in the glass hit at the front, you get a great view of the castle.

If she loves shopping, the new rooftop bar right at the top of the St James Quarter would be a nice post shop drink spot. Or Johnny Walker experience rooftop bar, or Nor Loft. All a bit less of the usual touristy stuff mentioned so far here, and all have beautiful city views.

The chamber street museum of Scotland is fantastic now and so close to the university.

For a lunch/dinner near queen street I would recommend Meze Meze on Rose street. Johnny walker does have fab views as mentioned already - best to prebook.

There are two fudge shops near the bottom of the Royal Mile head into one and get some Scottish Tablet. Your head may explode as the sweetness so be warned.

Scottish National Portrait Gallery worth a visit.

For future searchers: The Real Mary King Close was very good, 1 hour long, fascinating history.

Good shopping g in the St James Quarter and reasonable food outlets.

The Dungeons was not at all my scene but my dd enjoyed it!

Portrait Gallery was stunning, great foid in cafe, quiet, amazing photography section.

Greyfriars Kirkyard was v interesting with beautiful architectural tombs.

We ate at Veeno, independent Italian bistro - delicious and reasonable. Rose Street. Also ate at Tapas Andalucia on the bridge, fabulous tapas.

Thanks so much for all your help!!!!
