Allowance for teenager

I think my daughter is ready to buy her own clothes (apart from school uniform). Not quite sure how much to give her - what's the going rate for early teens? Also wondering if clothing allowance should be combined with pocket money or if it's best to keep them separate?

My mum used to give me the family allowance as pocket money when I was a teenager.

Funnily enough mine did too. Going on the amount for the eldest child that's about £100 a month.

We give our teen £20 a week to cover some clothes (frivolous items like a strappy top), food out with friends, make up, skincare etc. We pay for her phone & gym membership & anything else she needs really. Think she may get more than her friends on a weekly basis but everyone does things differently. ie some friends will get given £60 when they go into the city.

It really depends on your budget - what do you normally spend on her clothes? Do you shop in Primark or Next? Will you still be buying basics (underwear, pyjamas, replacing worn-out jeans/t-shirts) or is this for everything? My daughter is at college and working but I give her £50 per month to cover all clothes (she isn't growing any more so it's just to top up) and food at college. She's happy with Primark though so doesn't need much. If you have a good income and would normally spend more, then the child benefit amount might be more reasonable.
